Incredible CPU usage with just one midi file and VST

Post by DJ äqualibrium » Sat Oct 08, 2011 9:01 pm

Hello everyone!

Longtime lurker of these forums and decided to register as I have had a long running problem.

I just purchased ableton live and built a brand new pc designed around running live optimally.

So I installed live to my SSD and have all my samples/VSTs on a WD raptor.

I start it up, arrange my folders and throw some notes together. I put on sylenth 1 (doesn't matter what VST) and this is what happens:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

If I upload a project file of a complete song, it goes to 60-80% and the audio cuts in and out.

What am I doing wrong? :(

System:
Gigabyte 990fx
Samsung 64gbSSD
WD caviar blue 2TB
WD 150gb Raptor
WD 500GB black
AMD 1100t X6 3.3ghz+
2x GTX 560

2x Yamaha HS80m
TC desktop konnekt 6

Thanks!

Assuming this is a fairly new system..

Are there any speed stepping/cpu throttle settings in the bios enabled that might be under volting or disabling cores to save power or generate less heat?

I know on my AMD x6 the bios on my mobo was automatically set to not use all the cores unless needed..

Thanks for the replies :D

And no as far as I can tell this doest not only happen with tracks with MIDI notes. I tested it with a few tracks containing .wav files and the same problem occurred.

I also went through the bios and found nothing of the nature :/ Good idea though!!

Edit: I tested just audio with 3 audio tracks playing (Kick/ white noise/ chords) and it played at 8-15%
