Un-installed M4L but can't get rid of M4L preset 'folders'

Post by catalyst » Fri Oct 28, 2011 6:04 pm

Hi

I sold my M4L license and subsequently un-installed M4L by -

> Deleting the Max folder from /Applications
> Un-installing any M4L Live Packs
> Re-authorising Live after the M4L license was removed from my Ableton account

What I can't get rid of are these 'ghost' M4L preset folders in the browser, i.e.

Instruments > Max Instrument
MIDI Effects > Max MIDI Effect
Audio Effects > Max Audio Effect

These folders don't actually exist in my Library but still appear in the browser, its driving me nuts! Any ideas how to stop this?

cheers!

I may be wrong, but think that you have to go into your library and delete the preset folders there.

EDIT: I overread your last sentence. - That sounds weird! - Is it possible that've more than one library folders on your system?

I think I have fixed it! A single Library but multiple folders one level up reflecting versions of Live 8 I had previously installed in ~/Library/Application Support/Ableton, e.g.

Live 8.1
Live 8.2
etc.

I am currently using 8.2.2 so I deleted the following -

~/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Live 8.2.2/Database/files.db
~/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Live 8.2.2/Database/files.db-journal

This appears to be a SQLite database (I guess to optimise searching for presets etc.) but it was not updating to reflect the deletion of M4L. After deletion and restarting Live these files appear to have rebuilt with no negative effects and the 'ghost' folders are now gone, so hopefully that is the soluton.. time will tell :-)

cheers!

I think, I missunderstood because you wrote "folders". You meant the instrument/FX/MIDI device entries in the browser, didn't you?

Cool that you found a way to get rid of them.
