Ableton as a mixer/processor for live gigs
Ableton as a mixer/processor for live gigs
Just wondering how many people use Ableton for something other then launching loops? I am intending on using it to put all our hardware through and sync to the MPC so I can add beat repeats/delays/effects. We already put the vocals through it. I can use clips to automate effects changes between tracks then. Basically, I am thinking that instead of a mixer, all the instruments can be mixed and have some eq applied and grouped (bass, drums, synths) before going into a di to the soundman.

I've tried doing that and I still haven't been able to make it work properly, there's the latency factor caused by things running through Live, and depending on the number of effects you have, there's also the risk clipping and Live even crashing for the load. It's happened to me, but then again, it will depend on how much you're loading it with. You can test and see what the limit will be.
Cheers!

I tried it last night and it works really well! All hardware going into Ableton and getting processed with repeats and that. The latency was very low as well so no problems!

How many channels? how many effects? How many outputs?

i do
i use 18 inputs from my soundcard for all my hardware
every channel has the same fx chain (pumper, livecut, eq) to keep latencies in check
i also use 4 external sends to my kaoss pads and the nord
all sequenced from within live using external instruments on every track(drums uses a special rack that has 4 external fx to return separate sounds from the hardware while still being only 1 column

7 audio in channels for the synths (Micro Korg, Korg XL, Machinedrum, Gaia, MPC, Bassstation, lead vocal) and then two midi channels and 3 group channels to send sound guy stems.carlosjhzapien wrote:How many channels? how many effects? How many outputs?
Effects on each audio channel like comp to tame peaks but not really doing anything and eq just to create a little space live between the hardware synths.
I got latency under 4ms and buffer at like 70 or something.
