"4 Oscillator models
3 Highpass filter models
4 Lowpass filter models
3 envelope models "

He modeled a bunch of analogs like moogs, korgs, rolands etc. so you can combine the different oscs, filters and envelopes of them together. But apparently it absolutely destroys your cpu. :)

U-He's new frankensynth

Been playing around with this over the past day since the public beta was released and it's very cool indeed!

You've got the Minimoog, MS-20, Jupiter-6, jupiter-8, Juno-60 and an Alpha Juno, all in one. The Oscillators, filter and envelopes are modeled separately so you can mix and match the different parts. For example take jupiter-8 oscillators and put them through screeching MS-20 filters in series. Very cool.

Go grab the beta!

From the KVR thread:
Triple Oscillator and transistor ladder filter are the Minimoog
The Sallen Key filters and the Eco Oscs are based on the MS-20
The OTA Ladder is based on the Juno-60 and Jupiter 8 filters
The OTA SVF is based on the Jupiter-6 and Alpha Juno filters
The Dual VCO is based on the Jupiter 6 and Jupiter 8 oscillators
The DCO is based on the Juno-60 and Alpha Juno oscillators
The Analog ADSR is based on the Jupiter 8 and Juno 60 envelopes
The Digital ADSR is based on the Jupiter 6 and Alpha Juno envelopes

Why does anything worth a shit, especially in the world of emulation, do this?

True. However after playing with it, I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not as bad as I would have thought. At least not when used as a monosynth (which the originals were anyways). So for serious authenticity, I think it's great and isn't bad on cpu. I personally don't believe that perfectly emulated analog synths are really necessary for good polyphonic synth sounds and pads etc. I don't think the difference is noticeable enough. But for bass, ripping leads, sequences with very specific attack types etc. a painstakingly emulated synth needing a bit of juice is usually worth it. Lots of other synths are great for pads and polysynths, like the Arturia synths or whatever, but many of these fail when it comes to strong bass, leads and sequences.

daaaamn.. 50% cpu when playing a 4 note chord...
I'm betting you can fry an egg on the computer chassis when it's looping...

It'll be better once the multicore support is working.

Yep, you gotta reeeally love it to want to play chords with it. ;) But hey freeze is your friend in that case.

Shouldn't make a difference in Live. Live uses one core per track. I'm not even sure what the benefit of multicore support would be. I guess some hosts must allow the load from one track to split amongst cores if the plug-in allows?

Sounds really good, He did a great job as usual. It's probably going to run around $150 according to Urs, price isn't set yet.

I made three Kraut/Eno type 'Hold a Note' patches earlier today;

note: Hit the Mod Wheel + Pitch Wheel while holding down one then two notes on the 'eee...know' patch. ;)

i agree that it sounds great but WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE IN MONO!!
from the looks of it, to get this in stereo i would have to rack up two of these. i think my pc would blow up if i did that.

the guy that made sylenth1 did it best, each oscilator has one stereo and a pan nob, this makes it super easy for true stereo sound without using a chorus effect.

switch Voices from 8 to 4 and use Mono / Legato whenever possible, and the CPU isn't nearly so bad as it seems at first (still bad though, heh).

my review: Amazing!

i believe he was trying to emulate/simulate a few oldies and I think they were also mono synths. i think... at least that's the statements made in one of the threads at the u-he forum on kvr.
