Reasons you love Ableton

Post by c33 » Tue Nov 29, 2011 5:17 am

ho ho ho.. let's list all the reasons we love Live.. and check it twice

1. I love how many ways there are to execute something / that when I think I've hit a brick wall, Live usually proves me wrong

2. That I've been working with it for months now and still learn something new almost every time I use it.

The audio routing, best of show DAW wise.

The way it handles fixing timing in audio tracks.

The simplicity is nice sometimes. <-- I'm mixed about this, I use other DAWs and sometimes you want the complexity, if Ableton can add it in while keeping it simple on the surface, that would be the best of both worlds.

There is still not a better DAW for performing live.

umm..
i paid for it, so i am forcing myself to still love it even though i tend to hate it more and more often.
it's great for quickly sketching up audio, and the rack feature is great, but i don't think they thought through how exactly it handles several tracks properly. takes up unneccessary space (try making a group track of 20 tracks, and watch the minioverview expand. now duplicate these grouptracks 10 times and shoot yourself in the foot), lack of precise automation control is just horrible, and multitrack handling in general is horrible (watch live crumble is you hold ctrl and try to duplicate that short piece of highlighted audio into another track at another location and you have to wait several minutes because you decided to zoom in and do some detailed work, as live frantically tries to move from point a to point in order to let you drop that piece of audio inplace of another clip. especially when working vertically. wtf ableton..) and the instability really makes me want my money back, but since there's no dice on that call; i love it.

still, i can't work faster anywhere else simply because of racks.
ironic, really.

tell you one thing though: it's better be made out of pure magic for me to drop money on an upgrade heh.

oh, here's another thing: i've yet to have a single reply from techsupport regarding my bugsends. i do get the automatic "we've collected your bugreport" email though, so it almost feels like proper support.

My favourite thing is the way they force you to keep using it, even though you dislike it.

The interface. It actually looks good, contrary to most DAWs.
