Just thought I'd say I love my SSD! I've had various problems with audio glitches every so often on heavy bits of songs for the last year or so. Finally got an SSD for my MBP about a month and a half ago. Wish I'd bought it sooner, even though I couldn't really afford it! Since then everything's been running smooth as a baby's bottom. And everything opens faster (including my Live sets, and is generally super snappy and responsive too (as you'd expect).
For the record I have it set up:
Crucial 256GB M4 SSD (with the TRIM hack enabled) containing OSX Lion, All Apps (inc. Live), Live Library and Songs.
WD Scorpio Black 500GB in my DVD drive space with an Optibay for mp3s, photos, books, and all the other junk I need on a daily basis.
Obviously I can't have everything I've ever written, and every sample pack I own, but it seems fine on being able to run everything I normally want and archive old songs on an external drive.
So if you're thinking about an SSD, don't! Buy it.
Just make sure it's fully compatible first (e.g. the M4 is fine with my Mid-2010 MBP, and is supposed to be with the 2011 MBP, but some 2011 MBP owners are having fun making the M4 and some other SSD drives work with theirs - check your forums fully before buying)!

I just bought one yesterday, Crucial M4 128 GB, with Win 7. Pure awesomeness. My default set opens in ten seconds instead of two minutes.

Be sure you backup regularly
They're getting better with each new release, but they still have a much more finite read-write lifespan than platter drives
That said, until they bust, they are soooo worth it. It's the single best speed improvement upgrade I've ever made to a computer.

well I thought that SSDs live longer that platter-drives. For example thr samsung has a lifespan of 1.5 Mio Hours. This equlas 172 years of nonstop running this disk, so I think they are not so easy to destroy...

Built an i7 Sandy Bridge system around a very fast 256G SSD and all I can say is it flies. A friend just dropped off a brand new 128G SSD he bought and didn't want (lucky me!!). I just wish these things were cheaper. Love to have a 1TB drive as my project drive.

I love my new laptop with ssd. Ableton Live feels so much more stable on it and works lightning fast.
I got one because I kept having normal hard drives feck-up on me and losing loads of work. Some of these drives were maybe only 1-2 years old. an ssd will last wayyyy beyond that.

seems nice but still pretty pricey for me.. gonna wait.. but a question for those that do have it and run alot of vst's.. is there any benefit to having ableton run on a SSD but all the sample/vst libraries and recordings are on another drive (like your Komplete, Omnisphere library, Kontakt, or anthing you record)? any info would be great.. also, can ableton run on another internal drive besides the OS HD if your on a desktop?

programs on ssd and samples on optibay
i believe there is some speed limit on the optibay that would nullify the benifits of having a second ssd in there
