Novation Nio 2|4 with Macbook
Novation Nio 2|4 with Macbook
Anybody actually uses this soundcard as a midi interface with Mac?
I can't, for the love of god, make the damn thing work. Works great as a soundcard, with all the inputs and outputs...awesome for DJ'ing...
But...After reading every topic on every forum known to man, I can't actually find someone that actually uses the midi on this thing.
OSX version 10.6.8, latest drivers, you name it.
Anybody can please share their setup, and how you use yours?
Thanks,

I use one w/ a MacBook, and use it w/ midi w/ no problems.
Do you have your midi channel sending midi to the NiO (I tend to do it this quick/easy way instead of using External instrument).
Let me know, and I will try to help you troubleshoot.

i do.
go to midi sync tab in live and turn on these 3 on nio : track, sync, remote.
remote is enough if you just want to use a generic controller

Can you elaborate on your easy solution of sending midi to the Nio?contakt321 wrote:I use one w/ a MacBook, and use it w/ midi w/ no problems.

Basically all i want is connnect a FCB1010 footswitch, and when I press the buttons on the footswitch the logo on the Nio doesn't even flash (meaning no midi in or out...)
The problem is even with the remote on in live, my Macbook doesn't detect the incoming midi signal....
Any ideas?

1. Do you have NiO properly set up in Live (use the built in set up tutorial in Live if you need help)
2. Do you have midi out of your cableboard plugged in to the midi in of the nio?
3. Do you have NiO connected to the Macbook via USB (if it is, the light should be on FYI)
When the answer is yes to all 3, when you touch your pedalboard do you see the midi light turn on in Live in the top bar?

Re: Novation Nio 2|4 with Macbook
I had issues with mine. I use it with my Dell laptop no problem, but when I hook it up to my MBP using the same configuration, the audio's fine, the midi sometimes works but if it does, only for a couple of minutes, then nothing. Other times it just doesn't work. I didn't bother looking into it too much as I have other options...

Yes to all 3, but no light on Live, nor the novation logo light flashes on the Nio itself.contakt321 wrote:1. Do you have NiO properly set up in Live (use the built in set up tutorial in Live if you need help)

Not right now, but you've motivated me to have another go at making it work when I'm in the studio later this evening...Madureira wrote:ollyb303 wrote:10.6.8

Re: Novation Nio 2|4 with Macbook
strange, the OS factor is interesting - also, I only use it for midi out, not midi in - I wonder if that's part of it
Re: Novation Nio 2|4 with Macbook
I think that OS 10.6.8 has some serious issues when it comes to midi compatibility...same thing happened to some other guys in a Tascam forum. Apparently, older drivers made for 10.6.4 don't work with 10.6.8... weird.contakt321 wrote:strange, the OS factor is interesting - also, I only use it for midi out, not midi in - I wonder if that's part of it
Looking forward to some suggestions...if you have. Next in line for me might be buying something like the MAudio Uno, or a different soundcard altogether....Shame, 'cause I like the Nio a lot.
