korg ms 2000 question regards polophony

hi there, looking to pick one of these up.. what is the main issue of just having 4 voices? is it to do with how many keys can be played at the same time? could i still play basic chords with little issue? thanks

four midi notes/voices can play at once. so you could play triads. you could...

It's also 2 part multi-timbral so you can play 2 different sounds at once with different polyphony settings, i.e. 1x3, 2x2 voicing structures.

The 4 notes polyphony never was an issue for me. The crappy sounding filter, on the other hand, bothered me a lot more...

ive got a budget of about £250. was looking a getting a novation impulse midi controller, but played on one and just thought, wouldn't it be better to actually get a proper synth. i know the ms2000 is a va, but it still looks pretty good and the microkorg is based off the same engine and sounds great.

any other recommendations? theres very little on ebay at the moment. ideally a juno 106 would b my preference, but they r impossible to find in the uk for a good price.

regardless of the voice count... i had one of these and sold it and regretted it for years until i got my virus ti. its a cracker of a synth and so easy to program its dream. its one synth i would happily by again.

ace - thats pretty much sold it for me. now just gotta find one. think the run up to xmas is a bad time to buy things on ebay!!!!

despite the limited polyphony, odd behaviour of the filter (which seems to require massive compression to maintain a constant volume), some midi weirdness and the way it doesn't output data from its arpeggiator and sequencer...

despite all of this, I have owned a ms2000r for roughly 10 years, its still working and I've used it live in loads. Its something I can not bring myself to sell - even when I am totally broke. The interface means that you can control almost all of the parameters for a patch live - without having to page through menus, the mod sequencer is brilliant for performance and its a really good way to get to grips with subtractive synthesis - Its the standard I judge all fake analogue subtractive synths by.

i sold mine for a jp8080 - i just wanted one. i rue the decision. i cant understadn why korg never came up with a MK2 with increased poly etc. they really had a winner. the user interface is awesome and even a nutless monkey can get awesome sounds out of it.

I recently discovered all the extra patches for the MS2K. They are much better than the original patches. I found them by joining the yahoo group. korgms2000@yahoogroups.com
