How to use properly the "edit" into an external audio editor

Ok let's take an example.
i recorded an audio take. At one point it saturates. So i want to edit this particular zone with a pencil tool in an audio editor. I click "edit".
The file now opens in my audio editor. i do my stuff in it. And then ?

of course i've read the manual, but it's pretty evasive....

i always save the edited version into the project folder and reopen in live's browser...if there is a better way i would like to know too....

Isn't it possible to just "save" (not "save as..."), so that the file in live is refreshed according to the changes made?

it think, even with that, one would have to go back to the browser in Live, get the new version, etc.

ideally some minimal editing in clip view would be nice....

The thing i do is show the temp file in live's browser, then open the editor, then edit, then export to the same path's name, and the click "replace". But come on, this is not serious.....

Yes, the file should automatically be replaced, when the external editor is closed. And maybe a backup file should be created to undo changes...
This would work very well, does it?

Yes it does work. It's tedious, though.

I don't see, where this can be made easier with an external editor than this:

1. Click "Edit"
2. Edit file in external editor
3. Close editor, it should promt if you want to save changes, choose yes
4. File is automatically saved and replaced with the new version (in Live)

All this without bothering with filenames and locations. Its done automatically.

Then what do you suggest how it should work better? If you have a better idea, post it in the wishlist forum, I will support it. Otherwise I will post my version.

Ok that's because i tried with audacity, and unless i am wrong, i have to make an export instead a "save", so i got all the file location process.
Gonna try on my other computer with waveeditor, which is a real editor. You should be right. Thank you.

Don't get me wrong. I am not sure if it works that way at the moment!
I rather wanted to say how it SHOULD work on my point of view.

I also used this feature rarely because it is somehow complicated, as you said correctly.

you can't?
how about live makes a temporary file upon hitting edit while taking meta data of the current file (location, name, colour, all that jazz), which you then edit in your editor, which upon switching back to live and give live focus, it replaces the file you selected to edit with the temporary one. same location, same name, new edit from the same file.

this would be the same as taking a file, copying it elsewhere, edit it, paste it back and rewrite the current file with the new file.
