Getting good latency out of an MPK25

Post by dashdanw » Mon Dec 26, 2011 1:12 pm

Hey guys, first post so forgive me if I missed anything.

I just got an MPK25 and have been using it via USB with ableton on my computer. The problem I am having is that the latency is slow to the point that I cant really use the pads/keys in time with anything but an extreeeemely slow beat (ie <90bpm). I understand that these controllers are not always very latent but I expected it to be at least playable, is there something I'm doing wrong?

What is your audio buffer set to in Live?

Unfortunately the latency of the midi controller has almost nothing to do with the midi controller, and everything to do with your sound card and audio buffer settings.

Are you using a built in sound card or a a more professional one that has ASIO driver capability?

If you are using the built in (ON A PC): download an app called ASIO4all

If you are already using an ASIO driver capable card, you need to make sure that driver is selected under Live->preferences->audio

Best of luck

just took a look and its not in the manual..
click help at the top of the screen, from there, click "help view", help view opens in live, and the third lesson down is the one you want "audio hardware".

I recently purchased an MPK25 and have it plugged to my MacBook Pro (running Ableton Live Suite). It seems fine with no latency problem. However, I installed the provided Ableton Live Lite (Akai edition) to my COMPAQ notebook running Window 7 and play the device...the mentioned latency shit does happen.

My question is...does anyone using Mac have such midi latency problem? Or is it Windows specific?

Does anyone in this thread really understand WHAT latency is?

hey all,

had the same problem to the extent that i just wouldn't use the thing. but if you go to preferences>audio>output buffer size... and play around with it, you find the latency decreases with the output buffer size. job done
