Question about installing new versions of Live

Post by vento » Sun Jan 08, 2012 12:28 pm

Hi, this is a fairly basic question (I hope) but I haven't seen the answer to it anywhere else.

Every time a new version of Live is released, I install it, but the previous versions are all still in my Windows Start menu. (8.21, 8.22, 8.26 etc) So, once I have installed the latest version, can I safely uninstall all the previous ones, without this affecting any of my songs written in the previous versions or any Live packs or VSTs I may have installed before?

If I have installed third party Live packs and incorporated them into my main Library, will that updated Library be preserved if I install a new version of Live and uninstall the old one?

(Are all of Live's Library instruments/files kept in a different location to "C-Program Files-Ableton-Live 8.x.x"?)

Thanks! Phil

Yes

The application folder only should hold the main program. All content should be outside of the main Ableton program folder. I believe the previous versions are left behind as a safety thing just in case a new version does something it shouldnt.

Yeah if you use other Skins or Midi Remote scripts that go in the Resources folder though, is the stuff you want to copy over to the newer version.

I usually wait until I put the recent version/beta through it's paces for a bit before deleting older versions.
