Export to MP3

Post by AdrianBurka » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:30 am

I know people want to export to WAV, send it to get mastered and/or tweak it in their own editor... but honestly, if you're working on a track with someone and want to work quickly and bounce ideas back and forth, it'd be great to just export to MP3 right off the bat and skip a couple steps and email the mp3 instead of making me open another program and waste another X minutes every time.

this has been discussed a lot. Valid arguments from both sides. But personally I'm on the "don't add this feature" side. Unnecessary.

HOLY S%#T!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!!!!!!!!! WORKING MUSICIAN HERE!!!!!!!

I hate having to do 5 steps every time I do an update to a track and submit it to the label/artist. Pain. in. the. ass.

Every other program has this. Easy to implement, and so so very very wanted. Not ABSOLUTELY needed, but holy c%#p would it be nice to have.

this is obvious, what possible arguments are there against being able to export to mp3?

I have no idea what valid argument could exist against having as many export options as possible. AIFF, WAV, Broadcast WAV, FLAC, ALAC, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, MP3, Soundcloud, etc... A professional needs many options today for many different services.

Ultimately I would love the ability to render to as many formats as possible and to place each file in a different specified location all in one swoop.

Maybe Bitwig can make that happen...

Seems like a no brainer to add this in, the many that need it will use it and those that don't...wont. Everyone is happy!!

Would make exporting to mp3 faster (better workflow), but also would make Live a bit more expensive, as IMHO the license owner charges a liitle fee for a license.

Nothing to say more.

Apart from that, I'd rather have an export to wav which I can rework or (try to) master rather than an unuseable mp3 POS....

This is absolutely mandatory! There is no reason not to have it this day and age. Upload times are long, and you can't email a WAV. Yes, lossless files are great for the final mixdown, but come on, it's not practical to be only limited to that format. If you are trying to collaborate/exchange ideas quickly, it severely hinders workflow and becomes extremely annoying. There is truly no excuse not to have it considering pretty much every other major DAW can do it. These are just the basics that any music production software should be equipped with.

Yea seriously! I upload to soundcloud a lot to share files privately back and forth with my band. When uploading waves, it takes forever!! There is a time and place for good quality, high bitrate audio when it comes to publishing a finished product or sending tracks to be mastered.
But for scratch tracks, come on!!! IT is a pain in the butt to go the extra step to convert to an mp3 after the export.
Allowing mp3 exports would allow for a quicker mixdown, faster upload, faster download on the other end, and taking up less storage space on my computer, iPod, or phone!

Seriously, it wouldn't hurt to have the option!

Well at least on a PC it is just another mouse click. There are more important things to concentrate on.
