Which audio interface to choose?

Post by rwlr » Fri Jan 13, 2012 4:19 pm

Hello,

I'm reasonably new to recording/production and would like to ask the peoples opinion on audio interfaces.

I'm basically wanting any ideas for an audio interface that works well with Ableton, simple but effective and reasonably priced (no more than £100)
I will be mainly recording guitar/bass parts and vocals. I plan on adding drums and other synths etc using Ableton afterwards (not sure if this changes anything but it doesn't hurt mentioning)

I appreciate any help given and if anyone wants anymore information to help with specifics I will happily oblige as I want to make sure I just get what I need.

Cheers,

rwlr

For about £120 it may cover your needs http://www.focusrite.com/products/audio ... rlett_2i2/

Be hard pushed to find anything decent in the sub £100 range.

Still looking for suggestions as I'd like a few options to investigate and get second opinions on etc.

I appreciate any help I get.

i have this:

i record, bass, guitar, and vocals with it. the sound is great and it comes with a nice little reverb plug too.

not sure about the price in pounds, but it should be fairly close to your price range. worth a look at least.

I'd be wary of purchasing a new Firewire device these days, I get a strong feeling that its on the way out. Manufacturers don't favour it anymore.

Yeah, I'd much prefer USB's. I know there is differences between them but for my requirements I think a USB device will be more convenient.

Really surprised by how much feedback I've got already, cheers guys.

Yeah, me too. A relatively cheap Belkin pci card with a TI chipset and a Fireface. works perfectly with win7 64

But I bet whatever the next interface I buy is based on usb3 , or 5, or something.
