is anyone using this for house music? just wondered how it stacks up,

sounds quite good, but seems more industial sounding due to the synth elements of the the vst

Try to use a compressor. A specific VSTi is not the answer to achieve a generic sound.

I can tell you microtonic is superb, as are the d16 drum machines.

Not tried punch.

But yeah, get a good compressor, it'll sort out your sound.

Personally PSP Oldtimer makes me very happy. It doesn't sidechain but it does just simply sound great.

if im honest i tend to shy away from compressors, although i can see the benefit, i have a kick that i need loud but it keeps cliping, so i put a limiter on it and it sounds even worse,

so im thinking compress but where do you start i just want to control the sound but still be able to increase the presence.

For starters, I use the preset "mildly aggressive" with Live's compressor. It gets a long way on drums. Slight limiter if necessary. Other than that, pick the right sample. You can go far with all kinds of FX, but the chosen sample is ultimately the source of your punchy kick.

Dude do yourself a favor and just turn it down so it doesn't clip. If the kick isn't meaty enough layer it (wisely, don't muck it up with conflicting frequencies) and then be careful about what other goodies in your song are playing at the same frequencies which are prominent in your kick and there shouldn't be any reason why you can't make it loud as f*#$.
