Is it possible to draw in volume automation in "Sampler"?
I just wanna fade out the end of my kicks. Is there a way to draw in the volume automation within sampler?
I know I can draw it in the midi clip or use audio and draw it in or use the fades but just wanna know if it can be done in "Sampler".
Thanks

Not that I know of, although that'd be cool.
I believe Sampler does have a volume envelope you might be able to use, although it's not as precise as drawing in automation.

Yeah seems like an envelope would be the best way, just wish I could actually see where its fading out. Might just switch to audio and use the fades.

well adsr would be the way to go. alternatively you can first do whatever you want to the sample and then drop that into sampler.

Ahhh good idea! I will get the file in audio, use the fades, bounce then drop it back into Sampler.mihai wrote:well adsr would be the way to go. alternatively you can first do whatever you want to the sample and then drop that into sampler.

that or clip envelope. i'd personally do clip envelope, never much played with the fades.Ill Frequencies wrote:Ahhh good idea! I can't believe that destructive audio editing is preferred to the use of adsr envelopes in sampler. If visual feedback is that important just make the beat in audacity ffs.

oddstep is right. ADSR is the easiest way to fade out a sample plus it can be automatted or tweaked manually in realtime. ADSR envelopes are a basic in sound design and can be found on nearly all samplers or synths.
@threadopener: the volume ADSR of sampler can be found at the right side of its global page. just turn down sustain to zero and reduce the decaytime and you`re done.
Tip: map all decays of your sample slots to one macro dial. by turning it down you can create a nice funky breakdown.
2nd tip: Read the manual -no offence

Hey levimoniz, be sure to send me regular updates on what threads I can post in...
... lfo... as fake adsr envelope, pah!

Shut the hell up.

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. -- Aldous Huxley
Re: Is it possible to draw in volume automation in "Sampler"?
yeah whatever. I got exasperated, what I thought was the best solution: non-destructive control of the volume envelope in sampler had been discussed and people were still thinking about other options that would be more time consuming to implement and cut down on the user's ability to manipulate the drum sample in the future. I wanted to stop people wasting their time.levimoniz wrote:The after-the-fact comment by oddstep to use adsr or to just use Audacity "for fuck's sake" is an unwarranted, meaningless asshole comment that is more than deserving of a "shut the hell up".
Are you defending him because you're an asshole too?
Nothing wrong with Audacity in any case.
lfo volume automation is cool, yeah - but in the context of the original question its a poor substitute for an adsr envelope. why use a lfo for this task when you can precisely control the duration of decay phase in ms?
Grunzlaut just agreed with me that's all.
Take it easy
Re: Is it possible to draw in volume automation in "Sampler"?
my mistake was to assume that people hadn't considered adsr properly and that they were locked into a waveform editing mindset. It was a knobhead thing to do.
more than adsr!
more than adsr!
