Shameless ripoff? Or clone with quality. Whats everyone's impression of these guys?

And what are they REALLY offering as an improvement anyway... (Ok multiple monitors is nice... and the arrangement/mixer views together are cool)
Because Whatever.

It's probably the first DAW GUI that looks like it's been updated since 1997.

Well... like that really matters anyway.

I dunno. Just thought that its interesting to say the least. I mean, ill probably try it out. But by the time it is actually released Live 9 will probably be out and will have most of the requested stuff we have been looking for anyway.

Holy fuck this looks awesome. Particularly the modular thing! Wow. The interface looks awesome too, some pseudo-3D going on. Very awesome new features here and there. The note automation and meta-based browsing is awesome. Can't wait to demo it. In the mean time I can only hope Ableton will innovate as well and one-up Bitwig.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so they say.

Looking forward to Live 9 :o

ableton definitely needs to keep their eye on these guys I'd say. I feel like bitwig is a direct response to abletons slow response to implement user requests.

there's enough features there that i need there now that i would switch if it was a fairly stable release at a good price.

but jesus, abes have been working for 2-3 years now, so live 9 should be nothing less than a game changer. and if they don't pull out all the stops, they've allowed the market to open up for competition.

at the very least, this is going to give abelton something to think about.

If bigwig are gonna take Abe's customers away they are going to ave to price the release lower than it would be to update ableton. If they are smart they will follow in Reapers footsteps to kickstart adoption.

I actually think Apple are dead on with Logic and pricing, it's almost certain that Logic will be $200 for every upgrade which essentially means it's only cheaper when you first buy it.
The advantage of this method is that it doesn't force a user to make a decision to buy every upgrade, just the ones that ad features that they need. MOTU do this with DP. I think it's much more user friendly than the tiered upgrade pricing in Live: One for Suite users who own the version before, one for Suite users that are two or more versions behind, one for Live 8 users who own the version before etc. I would be surprised if Bitwig didn't take a cue from Logic and Reaper.

On that line, I might buy Bitwig Studio when it comes out, but in no way does that instantly make Live useless. Considering time is money and I have a fuck ton of old songs and ideas in Live that would need to be flattened and MIDI ported, possibly presets made of VSTs that currently Live is taking care of for me now, I don't know if I would even switch 100% and sell Live if someone paid me to!
