Cynical and disheartening, but you know what... you could be right on the money. I really hope not.

I use Adobe software to do VFX work, and man, there's an example of a company that has got fat and lazy. They love to jack themselves off inventing new shit that half-works and .0001% of their customers give a flying fart about. Then they ignore their bugs and barely put any effort into improving workflow. Thing is, they rule the roost in the domain that I work in, so basically I have to eat their shit and smile.

The thing I dread most is seeing Ableton turn into a fat Elvis like that. Thats probably why I'm here, I never hang out in forums.

I don't know if anyone has seen this, but Fender has a new guitar muti-effects pedal that includes Live 8 Lite software: http://www.fender.com/products/mustang/ ... 2301060000

the fact that they are networking with Fender leads me to believe that there isn't "trouble" or whatever for Ableton

from my end (as a guitar player) I hope this points to developments in Live 9 that will be more geared to live instrument recording

for some reason this eases my worries a bit - just seeing Ableton involved in a brand new product on the market... and it's not like Fender is an obscure company or something

I'm sure that third party tie-ins and franchise deals are a great road to corporate success.
So, hooray for the shareholders, etc.

However I'm not sure that franchises and affiliation deals are also the road to customer satisfaction.

Yup. I don't believe people really think Ableton is heading for financial difficulties. Its more about how the company is run, and where their priorities are.

I don't care about how they run their freaking company or what their franchises are. I care about making music. I don't get any other interest in this subject.

Hey, I listened to your music and really like it. But I don't understand, why you follow threads like this one and reply regularly if you don't care and have no interest? ;)

My interest is that I work with live for a long time now and would like to continue doing so. That's why I'm afraid of all that silence and no new release for nearly three years now, what definitly must be a problem regarding money for the "freaking company". And yes, I could try to work with Live 8 until 2050, but as it doesn't feel very comfortable at some points, I would be happy to see it evolve.

Exactly. I know how much it can suck to be beholden to a non-customer service oriented company. I don't know where Ableton ranks right now, but imo they are dropping in the ranks. If they are becoming anything close to Adobe, as much as I don't want to, I really have to consider moving ships.

I post all of these critical thoughts in the forum so that they can see it. (that is, if they are lurking around this place?) Seems the most effective way of letting them know about how their customers are feeling.

Someone wrote recently that they never used to see anything like this much complaining going on here, and I don't think the userbase has gotten all pissy for nothing.

This "Shut up and use it" attitude actually kind of sucks. People here have legitimate concerns. Maybe these issues don't interfere with your work personally, or maybe you just sunk the $ and are not thrilled to see this much bitching, or maybe you're an uber-fanboy who can't see fault in the holiest of holies, or maybe??

I don't know, but I do know that people will continue to rant like I am for as long as they think shit is not copacetic in Ableworld.

It boggles my mind, to a point of fascination to see such a lack of respect of the miracles of technology. Also, because I used to be the same way, except with mackie tracktion, a beloved software to me. I'm hoping live is continuing, and will stick with it as long as possible.

gorillaknuckles...they're seeing it allright, if you notice the 'whose online' list, at least one from Ab-HQ pass thru everyday...from their standpoint i would imagine it looks like an acceptable percentage of users that are dissatisfied, can't please everyone

imo your concerns are legit if you are having all these crashes, i dont think you can blame it all on Live though, you might want to adjust your way of working if your system is not handling it...

def not saying, 'just shut up and use it', but until a newer version comes, do you have a choice? all this is not going to speed things up, take the bull by the horns, bc im betting if you are crashing now, 9 is not going to be the fix you are looking for....

not saying shutup a'tall, the squeeky wheel gets the grease, freedom of speech and all that shit

Technology is a temple then... Lets all bow down.

From what I understand, 64bit will allow Ableton to address more memory, which in turn will fix my problem. (Which is that 32bit only allows a certain amount of memory access by the application)

In my opinion the word "complain" is the wrong term to describe what most of people are doing here. I don't complain, I'm hoping, worrying and looking forward to hopefully see a new version or a totally revised product from Ableton. And yes, I wouldn't be sad to see something soon or to get an idea of what it will be and what features it will have.

Ableton trained its userbase over years to expect a new version once a year, what made users happy because of new and sometimes critcal missed features and got Ableton money. This stopped with Live 8 and was followed by a (quite late) announcement, that they saw all the problems many users had with Live 8 and would stay with that version to fix issues. But there wasn't much further information after that, but many sub-sub-releases and beta testings addressing one or two issues and the little goodie for suite users in form of Amp. And from that point there was/is silence. And I think that's what alienates people, makes them feel that something must have going wrong and make them express their worries in the one or other way. And trying to guess different scenarios seems to be a very human way. And anytime there is an event like NAMM or Musikmesse in front of the door, people (like me ;)) start to think "Well, they should make an announcement now. That may be the cause why there are so many threads crying for a new version the last days.

64-bit is the most legit concern imo. The majority of my crashes are because it can't handle the memory. But it's not like I need to tell them they need to make it 64-bit.

It'd be nice if they gave a progress report, and since they haven't maybe they don't want to deal with the reaction of it: more speculation, bitching, begging, more potential damage if they don't live up to what they declare, etc etc. 9 will say everything for them. It could be a sigh of relief or a total letdown, if they're willing to stay quiet this long while plenty get irritated, I'm leaning more on a lot of prayers being answered. If not, there are alternatives, and at least rewire.
