blast from the past!JuanSOLO wrote: they were at the Bomb Factory in Dallas.
i had tickets to see Tool there in 94. i got picked up with 2 other cats on a bullshit breaking and entering charge. i was tossed in the county jail for a week... then they said... ok, you can go now. i got in my car (a 69 Karmann Ghia at the time) after getting it out the impound lot, opened the glove box and there was my Tool ticket from the show 2 days before starring at me.
to make matters worse, all my friends who went to the show hooked up with a dude selling Pink Floyd tickets (Division Bell tour).
go ahead, ask me why i hate cops.

Re: the future of hip hop is at 140 bpm
I remember that tour, I saw it in SF with Henry Rollins, Cypress & Funk Doobiest opening for Beasties. I remember being a bit worried before the show knowing that they broke out the instruments and were more of a band for Check Your head and was half-expecting smallish amounts of rapping. They ended up doing aLmost the entire Paul's Boutique and Licensed To Ill, so I clearly had nothing to worry about. I enjoyed them as a band a lot more than I thought I would too, they make a very full sound for a three-piece!JuanSOLO wrote:No, it was more like 92 or 93. Beasties were touring for Check Your Head. I had owned a Cypress Hill cassette for about a year, but they were pretty much unkown at the time. I think Cypress Hill released their second Album almost months after that show.shadx312 wrote:Damn dude, that must've been around 86-87? So were beasties touring for Boutique?
Then they toured with House of Pain, then Lola. That Lola show killed it, fucking Cypress Hill, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys etc...so many good memories there.
When Cypress Hill toured with House of Pain, they were at the Bomb Factory in Dallas. I think EVERY person there was smoking pot at once. It was like being in a cloud. I remember going to the bar and passing about 6-8 cops just standing there watching. They looked like they were having fun, but really what could they do, arrest everybody? It was comical to say the least.

Re: the future of hip hop is at 140 bpm
There has been rapping on various dance tracks, rock tracks, and most other genres you can think of, for 20 odd years, but the core of hip-hop music and culture hasn’t changed that much during that time.
I’m sure there will be plenty more collabs like that, but I assure you, the majority of hip-hop fans are not gonna turn into a load of meth-fuelled hipsters any day soon.
Just my opinion of course.

Re: the future of hip hop is at 140 bpm
i think the core of hiphop music has disintegrated...long live the slinters, and the underground of oldschool hiphop that is still going strong

those are called remixes..they can call it what they want, but 'vox pulled from the vaults' without the participation of the artists are remixes
by core, it think of oldschool
but i can already tell this exchange will come to nothing, semantics
