Is it an 808? PLEASE, someone help! I need a tight little snare sound like this one. Is there a freebie or Ableton version available? Much appreciated! :

Like Ben_Binary, my first thought was 606 - but then the note of the snare does sound like 808, the white noise part doesn't. The rest of the kit seems to be a CR78, especially the hat & cymbal. So my guess is CR78. As levimoniz says though, it could be a variety of early drum machines.
Love that song, both the Fischerspooner version and the original by Wire. Definitely check out the original, those two Wire records - 154 and Chairs Missing - are two of my favorite records ever made. So ahead of their time, they'd be massive if they came out now. A key to listening to Wire for the 1st time, listen all the way through. The songs are all under three minutes, and 2/3rd's of the way through they open up into something new that totally makes the song. It's an amazing trick. What a band.

Not sure about the snare (could be a CR78) but just wanted to second the Wire love... huge fan here, seen them live more times than I can remember... I'd also recommend checking out some of their 80's and more recent stuff too (as although many folk will say that their first 3 albums are their best there are plenty of gems to be found later on!)anybody human wrote:Like Ben_Binary, my first thought was 606 - but then the note of the snare does sound like 808, the white noise part doesn't. It sort of reminds me of the little Roland DR-110. Which takes me back a bit...

Interesting. I'm not familiar with the Roland DR-110. I'll have to check it out, thanks.
Just noticed in MicroTonic, there's a snare drum called EM SD 1984Korg that sounds a lot like it. So, perhaps a Korg

Right on. Yeah, they're still great live. They've done all kinds of stuff over the years, and Wire's still making interesting records. I quite like some of Colin Newman's early solo stuff also (A-Z, Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish/Not To).taoyoyo wrote:Not sure about the snare (could be a CR78) but just wanted to second the Wire love... huge fan here, seen them live more times than I can remember...
