Magic Cables or Huge Marketing Hype

Post by nopattern » Thu Feb 16, 2012 9:04 pm

I'm very very surprised that a search on this company didn't give one single hit on here.

http://www.neo-w.com/2011/04/henrik-schwarz.html

he's saying that about a (very very expensive) USB cable. Look at the artist roster on there, marc houle, dubfire, reboot, henrik schwarz, akiko kiyama. alot of pretty big names claiming that these cables greatly enhance the sound of their digital audio.

On one hand it makes no sense that the cable would matter but I have a hard time believing that these artists would essentially be talking total bullshit just to make a few advert dollars. for artists like that to endorse $200 computer cables on the basis of sound quality would be like selling your soul.

interestingly enough i found the company on the www.manmademastering.com website which is Tim Xavier's mastering house, he is extremely reputable and just did all the mastering for the new plastikman stuff so it's no joke.

what's the deal with these cables, seriously go and read all the artist testimonials. It blew my mind because of all things??!! the cables? really?!

First I will say you are spamming.

That aside there is no way to believe this shit, I wonder even if the artist they are quoting know about this.

Yeah, its quite clever the way its written, but... something... smells off. Goes from meh disbelief to hyper enthusiasm/incredulity very quickly.... 8)

I'm pricing them out and they start at around 2700 Yen for 0.7m. That's like $35 US. I still call BS but who knows.

ah, more of this crap. yes, it's total bullshit. making up quotes from artists is the least of their sins.

for digital signals it totally does not matter. on a PC if your USB device loses the connection with your PC you have to restart Live (not true on a Mac.) drop a single 1 or 0 and it's a restart. how many bajillions of hours have all the PC Live users logged on crappy cables without having to constantly reboot?

When did people start thinking that famous artists must know about the tech side of things? Would you have asked Jimi Hendrix to fix the hum on your Marshall stack? There's some talented people out there who know sweet FA about how it all works.

Personally, I find plugging my gear into these to have a greater effect on my audio:
