Let them complain as much as the people over here and on facebook. Fortunately companies do their own decisions price- and featurewise. If one doesn't like, one doesn't have to buy and use it.

Be sure people will also start complaining again on the upgrade prices, whenever Ableton will finally announce a new version. "We had to wait sooo long", "64bit is standard and we shouldn't be charged for it" blabla.

Then I'll pick your foolish sentenses.
ITS SOFTWARE!
You don't want to pay over $100 for the BWS. That's your opinion. Nothing related with hardware or innovation.
(to "These guys need to make their money back, software dev takes a -lot- of time and resources.") then maybe they should have written for the ipad instead. its obvious that tablets are the future.
You don't have to buy full fledged softwares. They are basically for pros. Buy "app" for a few dollars. You can produce your "real" music.
also if they would price the software around $99.00 or lower (look at reaper) more people that would have cracked the thing would actually buy it.
Yea Adobe Photoshop should have been around $99 because of crack. But they don't have to (at the moment). Why? Because it's professional software. Pros are paying for it.
you can touch it,it takes less than half the time to make a track in it than with pc software
By the way that's not the thing consumer would pay for though.
with the ipad on the other hand you can touch the software and there are a lot of great apps for low cost that make creating music a breeze just like hardware does.
Then release it. Who would buy that cheap sound song?
also with current pc music software you still need to buy controllers just to get into a real music creating mind space, this adds even more to the final cost of creating music on a shit pc.
Who have said that crappy kaossilator's loop or cheap sound song release from iPad are a real music? However I admit that It's nice toy for hobby.
there is really nothing innovative coming out for pc's anymore
im not talking about the mac. i dont care about the mac either. unless some one starts making something innovative at a reasonable price for pc's its over.
I think no one would develop innovative software for pros if those pros aren't willing to pay over $100 even for super innovative one. But wait until someone invent a software that is lower than $99 and composes music for you. iPad app may be preferable for you. Am I right?

That is highly logical.

yeah personally I doubt this is a real price yet.

And frankly there is no way they should ask that for version 1.

The thing people are forgetting is, there is going to be a LOT Bitwig doesn't do at version one. They have apparently built their spec sheet almost entirely based on what Ableton DOESN'T do, yet there are about 1000 things that Live does that it couldn't possibly do yet.

Ableton didn't charge much for early versions of Live because it was a new product and it didn't do as much. Since then there has been over 10 years of development, so of course it is going to do way more.

I'm more surprised that digital village are assuming it will be that much.

But not for professional needs! And at the moment there's no possibility to install 3rd partie Plugins.
And you're bound on the Appstore: if a developer get's kicked out of the store or due a software update the App isn't available for your iOS 3 or 4 or 5 any more, you're not able to get software you'll need. So that concept with the iPad and Appstore is really not for long term usage. And even a iPad isn't Powerful enough for the most peoples needs they do seriously music. Maybe we can talk in 5-10 years about things like that, but now this discussion is absolutely bullshit and the price of bigwig is good if they bring the software they've promised.

Nathaan is correct when he says Tablets are the future. But software developers have to work in the present.

In a few years time tablets with TeraByte drives, multi GB RAM and High definition audio/video will be the norm. And high speed personal wireless technology will basically make built in storage unnecessary for anything other than immediate working data.

In 10 years' you'll be able to run Live on your wristwatch.

I'm not so sure. I think it would shit me to tears trying to do proper work with a tablet.

well to be more precise I'd say the future will be modular - tablets, keyboards, big screens, various human interface devices, sound interfaces, data storage, network access points, all linked by low power wireless technology.

One thing is sure, it will look less and less like a conventional computer.

But we're veering off topic.

I am not, as retailers they did the simplest thing to do to boost sells of original product-Live in this case, threatened (perhaps) by speculations, buzz about possibly competitive, "better" product. Brilliant move, I say, costs nothing but effective to "help" undecided customers who might otherwise wait for the audio unicorn.
