Does alcohol make your music sound too rushed?
Does alcohol make your music sound too rushed?
When I've had a drink or seven, and I listen to my tunes, they sound too rushed -- like I should have chosen a slower tempo or left more room to breath. Anyone else have this experience? It makes me wonder, because in most live listening environs people will be imbibing...

Just never play an instrument, or mix/master while drinking.

OMG I'm such a massive Peep Show fan!!! Thanks for that!!! I once even considered changing my name to Super Hans. But never, never do an alcohol enema.

I know exactly what you mean.cxris wrote:When I've had a drink or seven, and I listen to my tunes, they sound too rushed -- like I should have chosen a slower tempo or left more room to breath. Alcohol makes the music go faster. Weed makes the music go slower.
From my experience this is only true when you made the song in question.
Ive also noticed that the feeling of a song speeding up or slowing down, decreases with time.(weeks)
I suppose its all about how present you are in the song and how well you know it when listening to it.
Its fascinating either way.
Its like Einstein said: Time is relative.

for me making tunes on my own is always best straight and sober, though maybe with some strong coffee. if jamming with other people a beer or two goes very nicely.
mixing and mastering is best when straight too
listening back to the end result i like to get shitfaced on whatever is closest to hand. then if it still sounds ok the morning after, the track is finished

i experience that all the time...nothing to do with alchohol...
usually with a few months separaation from the track, when i go back it sounds jam-packed...no 'air'

All true. Super hans! Also listening to your own music after a few drinks, presumably with only a few people about, has got to be wildy different to hearing music played in a party or club setting where everyone is looking to have good time/get wasted/pull.
