Other DAWs
Other DAWs
Do any of you use another DAW other than Live?
I just got given a Reason 6 NFR today, going to use it in conjunction with Live with ReWire.

Nope. no one does.

Re: Other DAWs
I've always used another DAW with Live. I don't rewire much, mostly just use either for their strong points.
At first Logic, but Logic 7 being buggy on my machine got me in to Live in the first place. Recently Digital Performer.
Mostly I would rather mix down in an old school DAW, and there are times when writing a song that I realize I would be moving along quicker in DP and port over etc.

Re: Other DAWs
I often wonder about re-integrating logic as I have 8 still, but mostly use ableton these days, anybody care to share their workflow? I find the way I like to work is kind of destroyed by vst disabling in ableton, maybe I'm missing something though.
Re: Other DAWs
i own an old copy of Reason, but that's a totally different kind of DAW. Although they finally added audio recording in v6, for years it was just a collection of softsynths and effects plus a sequencer. I originally bought it as an expansion for my hardware workstation. Even today you can run insane track counts on slower computers which is a huge plus. The ability to cross patch multiple devices has been there since day one and is really underestimated in my view.
I also own a copy of Cubase that came bundled with some hardware. I keep trying to like it, but there is so much about it that is annoying. In fact, I used it to record some basic tracks this weekend but today I just transferred the raw WAV files into Live and will complete the song there.
Although I probably am using Live in a different way than many folks here, I like it because it is very flexible. It's one of the few DAWs that can slave to MIDI clock for one thing. I can use it in arrangement mode like a tape recorder, I can use both VST and AU plugs (I'm on a Mac) which neither Cubase or Logic can do, there are dedicated control surfaces (APC40 is fantastic even if you never use the clip launching buttons) , it's dual platform so I can work on my WinXP laptop if I want to, it's useful for gigs as well as the studio and the user interface is faster than other DAWs I've tried.
Live is not perfect but it just seems to fit the way I like to work better than other DAWs.

Re: Other DAWs
I'm about to pick up the cheap version of PT9 just to learn it.
Still gonna use Live for everything I can though.

Re: Other DAWs
I use Pro Tools for mixing. The multi-monitor and Eucon support are the main advances for me. I also have Reason 5 but frankly I don't use it that much.

Re: Other DAWs
no, doing it all in live. I tried reaper and logic, just to get to know it, but I am too lazy to learn it. And I do not do too much "traditional" multi-track recording that supposedly works easier on other daws.

Re: Other DAWs
most of the time i`m using live, but i love some of the synths from logic.
if i want to use some of them in a project i`m just starting mainstage and sync/connect them via IAC and soundflower.
sometimes i`m using logic for mixdowns too! in this case i`m using also soundflower to route the tracks directly to logic
cheers!
