volume dropoff when djing with live
i recently switched from traktor to ableton for djing. when i used to dj in traktor, the volume seems like it would always stay at a pretty constant level, regardless of whether i was playing 1, 2, or 3 tracks at once. i know that traktor had some sort of makeup gain feature, but i wasn't exactly sure how it worked. now that i'm using ableton, my mix seems significantly louder when i go from 2 tracks at once to just one track by itself. because of this, it always feels like a huge dropoff in intensity when going from 2 to 1. does anyone have any advice for this? it seems to work better when i use the crossfader, but that's only good for 2 tracks. i use a 4 track setup in ableton. thanks.

I have a few tips for that as part of this guide:

i appreciate the response, but raising/lowering each track individually seems tedious compared to traktor automatically doing it for you.

I haven't tried I myself, but a search for 'smart mixing' might help. A technique a lot of people seem to use. I think even Moldover likes using it haha
