the thing is back in the 80's almost every baptist church would have brainwashing sessions to make the congregation believe republican=gods will. if the government says to go to war and you oppose you are out of gods will. when you would show them what it says about evil in the bible they would claim that you are going against authority that god has set in place.
most of the congregation was easily swayed back then but their children were not.
the problem is you still have a lot of the older brainwashed crowd walking around still believing the crap they were told in church. what they should have believed was the parts of the bible that talk about jesus helping the poor, jesus saying love your brother as your self, false prophets,greed, and standing up for what you know is right.
i dont know how many times i heard crap like "i think clinton may be the anti christ" when i was a kid.
my dad is still a hard head republican and only votes for who the majoraty of the church congregation are voting for.
what pisses me off even more is that they think there are only two ways of doing things, republican/tpain party (right) democrat (wrong).
when i mention that i think both sides are wrong and that the whole system needs to be reformed, that we dont need a president and that the people should have the biggest vote in all laws passed i am asked if i am communist!!!! they dont even know what a fucking communist is! they refuse to take the time out to educate themselves. they refuse to see how this country is an elitist dictatorship.

THAT's what horrifies me... of course we just hear the filtered through dramatic stories, but the thought of actually having insurance and being denied certain things because it was either pre-existing or some other thing they worked out they could get away with, or demanding blood/urine tests etc etc sounds very scary

Even the most ignorant in this country think both parties are fucked and will do nothing for them so they just vote for the God party. A good portion of the red (Republican) states are among the poorest. So that's the only feasible reason they align themselves with the party that has zero of their self interests in mind.

Ironically these are the same simpletons that find the religious governments of the Middle East barbarically insane when their own utopian Christian government isn't far off from the same.

one other point -in Australia, health is managed on a state level. The fed. govt. takes the money through taxes then proportions it to the states and they have their own health dept.
