I don't see the point in it..
(other than a gimmick)

WHY is it against the clock ? why not a sensible deadline?
(like.. a week..)
what good can come of it ?
surely not quality..
Here are my thoughts...

1. It limits the amount of entries. The amount of people who can make this window of opportunity work for them is far less than if you had a week or a month. This means not as much to filter through and judge.

2. It favors those who are confident and familiar with Live. This eliminates a layer of users who are not that committed to the software.

3. It favors people who are confident with the music production process. This will generate a level of quality of entries.

4. It favors electronic musicians, Abletons primary market.

I think that you will find that quality will be the result due to the time pressures. :)
hehe.. don't get me wrong.. I'm in !
I'll do it for the fun of it..
and I do know that many many awesome songs were written ...recorded.. and printed in the same day.. (maybe not by 1 person)
so I understand your arguments..
but I'm still at the opinion..
that the human brain/ears needs to rest a bit ..to get perspective..
and more time.. would make your 1 day good track ..probably better
to get to the point.. I'm not really complaining..
just don't see the point in this specific limitation..
(since they're hosting it for a week.....)
and I do believe.. that most peoples' spare 24 hrs. would be the weekend ??
I don't care really ..
I was simply pointing out .. that it doesn't make much sense (to me)..

Black Sabbath recorded Paranoid in a day. That probably more than any other song besides Iron Man marked the start of an entire genre.

yeah..
more than 2 hours straight.. (sometimes less depends on your monitors/headphones )
and your ears are damn useless..
for me it takes a long cigarette (20-30mins.) for my ears to calm..

I sometimes get caught up and sit with the speakers..
way longer than 2 hours of course...
but at the end of it I understand that I can't really hear anything objectively..
it all sounds a mess..
and by that time.. it's not just my ears.. it's my brain too..
no way I can never get back to the "vibe" easily..
I'm fatigued..
and it will take more time for the ears to relax..

I now use this handy thing to time my sessions and take breaks..
http://www.focusboosterapp.com/

take a break..
get some fresh air..
