Video Slow in Live 8 compared to Live 7

Post by ResonanceMan » Sat Apr 07, 2012 4:37 pm

I finally bought my upgrade, and im about to make music for a video, but now that Im using live 8, I can see a very noticeable choppiness in video playback. i've tried all formats and bumping the video quality down to practically nothing and it still plays all video about 1 frame every 5-10 frames of video. Is there possibly a setting in Ableton to fiz this or do I have to stick to using Ableton Live 7 to make music for videos?

I've compared the same video in each version of Live 7 & 8, and the difference is HUGE!!!!!!

Please help!!

It seems that there's no answers online about this. i've tried using the Photo Jpg codec, ive tried ipod formats, super tiny mp4 & h.264 formats. they all play super smooth in live 7, and play super choppy in Live 8.... Is there a setting or something I can adjust to fix this issue?

well, since i can't seem to resolve the issue with smooth playback of video in Live 8, Im trying to reopen the project in Live 7, and I can't open the file. Is there a way to export from 8 to 7 properly?

so, i can run an full 720 HD MOV file in cubase perfectly smooth on an old G5 PPC. but If I run that same file or even smaller version of it in Ableton Live 8 on a Core2Duo 2.4ghz, it hardly plays the video at all.
Whats going Ableton!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

yes. i guess they aren't open until monday. but my project is due monday.
I guess i will be rebuilding the whole project in Live 7 and backward rebuilding my library. hopefully it still works, if not, i will be forced to use an old version of Cubase SE. it seems to run full 720 HD MOV files perfectly smooth on an old PPC G5..lol... im in disbelief that my Core2Duo 2.4ghz macbook with 4gigs of ram, can't play a MOV or MP4 file at 25fps and resolution as low as 300 x 100 pixels.. and the clocks are drifting between two synced computers. Ive checked the midi sync settings, and it weird, Ableton 7, perfect sync, Ableton 8, terrible sync. I have no grooves in the pool for the project, and no live looper, so i dont understand why the clocks are drifting. im synced through core midi & ethernet, always worked great. not so great now.. im hoping theres just a setting or something I can try. Im downsampling the video file too be thumbnail size to see how it plays. 7 is good, 8 no good.. donno what else to say.

well, i ran test with the video in Photo Jpg codec which is reported to be the smoothest format for Ableton. But I shrunk the resolution down to 300x200. I also killed my second monitor and switch the screen from arrangement to session and for some reason, that switch makes the video run smoother in ableton 8. The clock issue is resolved so im not experiencing any sync issues. However, due to the slower performance of Live 8 in video, I am forced to run all my sounds on my other system and video on this system. Live 7 never had to do this, but atleast im getting some kind of results. I just dont see where ableton made the video performance worse in the newer version.

just saying that, when the clip is loaded in RAM, the Core2Duo should out perform an old PPC G5
