Production Dilemma
ok here is my problem. so I live with my parents still and i was talking about putting room acoustics up on my wall to them since they bitch about the bass kick being too hard...unfortunately my pain in the ass parents think the acoustics are going to mess up the wall so they said no.
I have two questions since i cant put up room acoustics
1.Are there headphones that i can buy to mix down my tracks as if i was doing it through my monitors
2.Do i really need room acoustics (bass traps, panels) since i just make beats

Re: Production Dilemma
we were just discussing this the other day... Logictech has Ultimate Ears... There is a $999 dollar pair... you have to google for it. or check out the Capital Records Mastering site...
Monster has a pair of in ear mons as well.. they are $400 give or take........ I forget what they are called, just google,
"monster in ear monitors," and look at the $400 pair

Linear Phase has left the building..
Re: Production Dilemma
Just keep in mind that nothing you put on your walls is going to stop bass from getting OUT of your room and bugging your parents. That's not what acoustic treatment is designed to do.

Re: Production Dilemma
Just buy a solid pair of headphones (something with a wide frequency response and flat sound, search the forum you should find a bunch of threads), no need to drop $500-$1000 on in-ear monitors (whhich is such a waste imho).
Couple your new headphones with this: http://112db.com/redline/monitor/
Mix at a lower volume to save your ears from fatigue. Good to go.

Re: Production Dilemma
Headphone is okay to make good music and mixing. It is fine to consider buying good monitors after you got skill.
Re: Production Dilemma
The focusrite VRM box is also good for headphones, but you do need *flat and accurate* headphones.
Re: Production Dilemma
Try a completely different approach to mixing.
render wave, put in dropbox, play back on minuscule and shit iPhone speaker.
notice weird glaringly obvious mix mistake!
now go back to mix, adjust glaringly obvious mistake,
render again, put in drop box. repeat
Now: Visit friend, plug phone into his stereo, play back.
wince at obvious mix mistake/ arrangement mistake, return home, fix obvious mistakes.
repeat with various friends until deadline appears, forcing you to stop tinkering.

So bass traps dont drown out the bass kick...what is acoustic treatment designed to do then?Tarekith wrote:Just keep in mind that nothing you put on your walls is going to stop bass from getting OUT of your room and bugging your parents. That's not what acoustic treatment is designed to do.

+1 !!!!matthews wrote:Mix at a lower volume to save your ears from fatigue. Good to go.
Sound treatment won't sound proof the room. Headphones will be your friend but EVEN on headphones turn it down. Most of the time I get better mixes at lower volumes and a happy byproduct is that it will annoy your parents less and your ears won't burn out as fast.

Re: Production Dilemma
Control the spread of frequencies inside the studio to minimize issues caused by the size and shape of the room itself.emotionz22 wrote:So bass traps dont drown out the bass kick...what is acoustic treatment designed to do then?Tarekith wrote:Just keep in mind that nothing you put on your walls is going to stop bass from getting OUT of your room and bugging your parents.
