not so sure about that. my looper still fires off cleared buffers, and live still crashes when you are trying to work with a video, no matter the resolution of the video, because live wants to replay it as if you are scrubbing through it whenever you move the cursor around/move clips around, and live can't handle that.

not exactly my doing, unless you are proposing that i should stay clear of using these "features".

Shadx, have you installed 8.3 yet, and have -you- seen anything funny yet? Everything has been running real smooth for me so far.
Nope, I haven't seen anyone mention anything, just when it first came out I thought I saw a couple threads about some little niggles that may be usually overlooked so I was waiting for more of those. Gonna install it this weekend.
I should've clarified the question as more bug specific.

performing about the same for me, which wasn't good to begin with. e.g.:

1. poor quicktime performance.
2. disappearing video window after leaving dual monitor setup.
3. initial context menu click and the menu is a blank white box (i've had this bug since forever, hasn't changed).
4. more crashes than usual.

the biggest difference for me over the last few years has been improved stability from third parties. kontakt, omnisphere, play, etc. have all become much more stable. but live has been consistently inconsistent for... three or four years now? yeesh.

The only crashes I've gotten have been Image related since around 8.2...8...

Whispering sweet nothings does not prevent it from crashing, either.

I'm sorry. I did not mean it as a general statement.
It was directed towards The Philosopher King Crapper for acting like a douche...

How about, just every once in awhile, we have a thread without regressing into ankle-biters fighting over a lollipop. At least in one that I start.

No worries though. Be yourself, this ain't no dictatorship!

reading the 8.3 release notes, I found that there is no real need to update. whats new in there thats so important?
upload to soundcloud?
automatic software update?
app name change???
new windows installer?????
aplication path change in window...
usage data collection?

thats just a service release. I am not bothered about anything of that. I also never had stability problems except when a friend pushed me to install a not so clean copy of a vst... when live started freezing and closing i knew just what it was.. i got ridd of it and never since! No stability problems on a macpro 2011, macbookpro 2010, pc amd X2 64 2009, another amdX1 64 2004 i think and neither on al lousy cheap and nasty compaq laptop present from a bank for putting your salary in their account... that was running a miserable Celeron from 6 years ago...

No stability issue ever with legal software! I can only agree with the other user: if you have a stability problem with live, its most likely to be fault of your system, not live. At least with live 8 upto 8.2.8. which i got almost when it came out and use it as my main daw, ours non stop every day.

OK, i realized that i got a bit off topic, but i found important to give some deserved support to the ableton family. I smash live to bits in my sessions. i have over 60 tracks of life audio tracks with multiple effects on each track running, and i had no problem that could be put down to ableton.

Thanks guys for a real amazing program!

Hi, your video issue might be due to not enough memory either graphics ram or system ram... to slow of a grafics chip? just thinking... i remember suffering a little on that a couple of years ago when doing some scoring. my laptop only had 4gb of ddr3 @1066 and it seems it was not quite enough to help live to work as quick as it wanted.. but again its not fault of live, more memory solved the problem

but it's only with live mate.
all other software handles the task with ease. both editing video. editing audio to video. rendering video. animating video. compositioning video. all of it works, except trying to work with video in live.

Ableton offers video stuff, but nothing special. If you want quality video capabilities I suggest using software made specifically for that. And, if it needs to sync with Live then get software made to do that.

However if you cant afford anything other than making Live do things it dosent do well, like video, then make sure your .mov files are using PHOTO JPEG codecs.

I make a living doing video/animation/compositing/special FX, and I would never say any software does any video processing with "ease."
Video processing is notorious for crashing.

Not sure why you'd expect Audio Processing software with video gimmicks to be up to par?

On that note, my videos work great in Live, never a problem here.

Had a crash dragging Absynth into a project that was playing. Otherwise, seems fine, not improved in any way I'd notice. OSX 10.6.8 here.

only thing i need is to be able to sync audio with video, but live refuses to do that, because it crashes.
not to mention that you have to use left/right arrow keys with grid set to zero to find frames, even through i sit here with 3 scrubwheels heh.

but yeah, video software is notorious for crashing, however my video software is way more stable than live when it comes to that.
i wonder what that says about live.

i'm happy for you that your live works.
mine has never worked properly, and i do understand the idea of blaming the user instead of the software, but the fact is that live is only software i have that is this unstable, which leads me to believe that there's probably a better chance that it's live that is the problem, rather than my operating system, the software i have, how i set up my services, whether or not i have irq conflicts, what drivers i use, whether i use thirdparty plugins or not and so on and so fourth.

but yeah, i just want to be able to actually put out markers, and you know.. edit audio without live fucking up big time because of whatever the hell freaking magic it decided to do behind the scenes on that video file.
as for video encoding, photo jpeg does work better than other encoded files, yes.

best thing to do would be to be able to turn preview on/off, rather than to open/close the video window, and of course, either low res renders to high res symbolically linked clips, and/or the ability to choose preview resolution. i've noted that live prefers to crash with video whenever you move the playmarker around, edit audio and decide to move the audio as it scrubs through the entire video file wanting to play it back (and the less zoomed in you are, the faster it scrubs through it of course).

yes i know you want to say that this is because of my harddrive, my ram, or my gpu, but the fact is that i can scrub through videos smooth as silk everywhere else. i had some problems with live and some videos i imported from my q3hd and it turned out to be something to do with the encoder, and live was the only software who couldn't decode and play back this video properly, so i assume that live is very very picky about the codecs and containers it uses for playback and when it doesn't like it, all hell breaks loose.

iv been on soild 8.2.5. for a while now no crashes or bugs. only a few due to problematic plugins. But if they do some major revamping then i'll do a update. usually its a osx fix

8.3 has been solid for me, in fact every release has been solid for me aside from a few pesky plugins. I know what can cause crashes with those plugs and avoid them, bounce or save often.

My live set has been rock solid. Although this weekend will be my first full set with it. I've been doing a lot of taxing mixing and recording lately.

I like the upload to soundcloud feature but it's 100 times slower than exporting the audio and uploading it through the website.

@Kami

Yeah. The Looper and video haven't gotten attention yet.
For the video, I've found a workaround that works for me. I export video copies in low rate mp4's.
Live can handle those much better than raw hd video.
Once its time to export, I switch out the files with the raw ones or export the audio to my video editing soft.
