'The VST plugin cannot be found'.. How do I point it?
Hey, I just tidied, reorganised/named my VST folder (in the standard OSX folder library-audio-plugins)
Now Live tells me it cannot find (list of VSTs) used whenever I open a set, even though they're still there.
Doesn't appear to be a biggie as my VSTs are still there, but I'd rather not risk anything.
How do I tell it they are there, albeit with a slightly different name/folder?

have you done a "rescan" in the Live File/Folder preferences?

If you changed the folder name then it won't find them. If they're VST then you can select a custom vst folder in prefs but if they're au components then you're out of luck and have to restore the folder name to default and rescan.

Basically you need to store all your VSTs under one folder. This folder can have sub folders of course, but the folder you specify in preferences will need to contain all the VSTs you want to use in Live.

Also, in Windows you can hold the CTRL key when hitting rescan which will 100% refresh the scan and not just look for small changes.

nope, you can set a custom VST folder as well.Da hand wrote:Basically you need to store all your VSTs under one folder. This folder can have sub folders of course, but the folder you specify in preferences will need to contain all the VSTs you want to use in Live.

My bad, you are right for OSX. There is a system folder and a custom folder. In Windows, as far as I see, there is only an option for just the custom folder.fishmonkey wrote:nope, you can set a custom VST folder as well.Da hand wrote:Basically you need to store all your VSTs under one folder. Hey, all my VSTs are in the standard Mac VST folder: Library-Audio-Plugins-VST
They're then in folders for type (Distortion, filter etc.) unless they're by a company I have several or more for (eg. Native Instruments, TAL, U-He) then I use the company name.
Ableton recognises and sees them all nicely. In fact when I load my sets with the warnings saying it can't find them, the VST is still in place and working..
..So I'm actually not even sure what the problem is - aside from the warning messages - as I haven't seen any negative impacts.
What is the issue; and how can I stop the warnings?

Have you tried re-saving after opening one of these projects with the warnings?
Perhaps once it's loaded the paths are corrected and once saved would open as normal?

THIS FIXED IT!! I had this exact problem and tried EVERYTHING including pref rescans and folder relabelling...but just saved a new version and it opened perfectly.cotdagoo wrote:Have you tried re-saving after opening one of these projects with the warnings?
