Someone on the ableton answers site was asking if there was a way to see the names of the drum hits in their piano roll while using Battery, and I thought I'd make a video that addressed how to do this, using a Drum Rack, it goes on to tell you how to set up a drum rack so that it controls Battery, as if Battery WAS the drum rack, with the internal routing options that allows. A bit overkill perhaps, but it has some cool advantages, particularly for people who are already using Battery in Ableton.

Thanks, it was spurred by something Khazul mentioned in this thread:Elevated01 wrote:Nicely done. Short and sweet,,,,

and I though getting into the specifics of how to do it, with visual explanations, would be helpful. Especially setting the play/receive is something a lot of people might overlook.
It definitely takes some time for setup, but if you're intent on using battery in live, and want the benefits explained in the video, it's a good way to go.

Very simple and nice. I guess the external instrument plugin is even more usefull than I thought.

Yeah, it has quite a lot of uses. I use it a lot for rewire with Reason, it seems a lot of people send midi to reason on a midi channel, and then return the audio on a second channel, but you can use it to send and receive on the same channel, reducing mixer clutter. I also use the "external audio effect" to wire audio to/from my Kaoss Pad. They are really useful tools for simplifying the routing process.dentaku wrote:Very simple and nice.
