OT: Martial Arts - My new Keep Fit
Re: OT: Martial Arts - My new Keep Fit
I used to do Akido for a while, that was fun. I've been thinking about doing BJJ, but I worry that in my city it's a bit of a pastime for beligerent doormen wanting to tear up their opponents ligaments in a roid rage.
Watching these Gracie breakdowns makes it seem like a great game

I love FMA. Eskrima is a very deep and complicated art. I feel that it is very important to be able to hold your own in a knife fight or close quarters situations. It also incorporates rhythm as an important aspect of the art.
Always respect those who train no matter what art they choose to follow

I did Tae Kwon Do for years when I was younger, really enjoyed it. Lately I've been doing more yoga, which is something I never thought I'd get into. Great stretching and strengthening, and I was surprised how it reminded me of martial arts.
My legs are too trashed fro distance running any more but I still have biking too.

Yoga is very similar to martial arts based on the notion of strengthening tendons slowly to build up to harder things like inversions. They also compliment each other very well. Yoga/T'ai chi ch'uan can help to repair your legs slowly so you can run again. It can take up to 11 years to repair damaged tendons.Tarekith wrote:I did Tae Kwon Do for years when I was younger, really enjoyed it. Not every conflict can be avoided. It would be great if this were the case, but being mugged at knife point/ bar fights is a reality. The best thing is to give the wallet or try to walk away without a fight, but crack (meth, OC, booze etc) is a hell of a drugs and it never hurts to know what to do (the question is can one execute).Tone Deft wrote:I find it important to not piss people off in the first place.

I quit TKD late last year. To many negatives with the experience.
Looking for a more gentle replacement...
I think tai chi and yoga are some of the most gentle form of exercise.

I find that running away as fast as possible is the best possible martial art.Tone Deft wrote:I find it important to not piss people off in the first place.
