Steve Reich Piano Phase Rack

In recognition of Steve Reich's recent visit to my home town of Melbourne I am sharing this audio effect rack for Ableton Live inspired by his piece "Piano Phase (1967)".

I wonder if you could also do something similar using a controller to slightly vary the tempo of two piano phrases in midi clips... I know this rack is designed to automate the process but using hardware control would allow for the "physical" sensation of responding to varying tempo in real-time as the "real" pianists do. I saw Double Edge perform Piano Phase in Belfast and it absolutely warped my mind... incredible.

In my rack if you map controllers to the left and right Beat Swing macros you can effectively have hardware control of the tempos of the delayed signals. This allows you to snap the tempo differences to zero when you want a particular phased phrase to repeat for a period before continuing to shift away from each other again by dialling in the +ve and -ve percentages you want.

BTW check youtube for some videos of Piano Phase performed by a solo pianist - that is mindwarping.
