UNKLE Celestial Annihilation Cover

Post by rbmonosylabik » Thu May 10, 2012 3:55 pm

I rebuilt this track for my live set using as many of the original samples I could find. I still cant find the looping vocal one on top of the Toddy Tee sample in the scratch solo, lifted that one off the original tune, but if you know where it's from let me know.

The hardest part by far was watching Nicholas Cage in The Rock to get the "3... 2... 1.... Fire: sample.

The Live Set ended up looking like this

Good overall, your cutting is pretty sloppy. You need to cut the bass more on your turntable too.

Also, i would remix the track in some way, as it is now, its kinda like a slightly lower energy cover.

But work on the cutting, thats by far the weakest point.

You are doing too much work with your left hand. You need to slow your record hand down and focus more on the crossfader.

But like i said, good overall.

Thanks for the comments man. For this one I wanted to get the sampling and arrangement as close to the original, and with that down I think I'll do something new with it. You're right on the cutting, I've recently figured out a way to get my record hand to stay closer to the record, so I'm going a bit crazy with it, but I do need to tighten my crossfading and get cleaner with the record hand.

Seriously took it up as an instrument probably a year and a half ago.

Thats cool..
A couple of years ago I had a 2-year period when I put my drums in the closet and learned how to scratch instead.
I dont know how much of the basics youve practised, but I quickly understood how important the fundamental tricks/tools are if you want to get better.
I got a lot better after doing a bunch of scratch-along videos I found on youtube. I remember Qbert had some decent ones.. Probably a million more videos these days.

Anyway.. Good luck with your future scratching!
