I concur! awesome headphones!cmreal04 wrote:Beyer's hands down.
*edit* for some reason I skimmed over the "for mastering" and think the points about closed back headphones is something you should probably look into, since you seem to be looking at two closed back models, which offer better isolation, but not the most accurate sound possible.

if you really want them for mastering duties then closed-back headphones probably shouldn't be at the top of your list.

Oh really? Would you have any recommendations for the 150e/$170 price range Fishmonkey? Thanks!

haven't tried the dt770.. but i do have the ath-m50 and while it's a great value, to me the bass is a bit exaggerated.. I agree about using open back cans if your gonna use them for mastering.. I like my senn HD-650 alot

Does of you who like the DT-770's. Do you master with them? or just for listening?

How about it's 'brother' the DT-990?CerebralFX wrote:Oh really? Would you have any recommendations for the 150e/$170 price range Fishmonkey? Thanks!
I wouldn't use closed back headphones except for avoiding headphone bleed towards mics (or when you don't want to disturb somebody else with your audio).
I would not use headphones for mastering though. No good for the stereo image at the mastering stage imo.
What is your idea of mastering and that you could use headphones for that purpose?
Maybe search for info on using some kind of hardware (something like SPL's 2Control) or software (like the 112 dB Redline Monitor) to get acces to crossfeed.
People like Tarekith on this forum might have some helpful things to say on this matter.
