I voted for this guy, thought he did quite an interesting remix using the Junior Boys parts http://contest.ableton.com/tracks/518#

I also remixed them and came up with something completely different, but that's what's good about this comp......you get to see different personalities put into the same song

This was my effort http://contest.ableton.com/tracks/518#

Are people voting for more than one? I have been -- does that mean I've just been moving my vote around?

I've tried to vote for a lot of different styles -- it's been a lot of fun listening to what people come up with. Glad I can listen at work! But I vote for different reasons -- really good production is one of them, but also like the way out stylistic interpretations that people have, and I've voted on that too.

Nice one mozzatron. I like that groove a lot. Dig the funky!

Does anyone else think the way we have to vote is pretty absurd? There's no way to view the submissions in any way but for the hard-coded order, is there?

Maybe I'm missing something, but a sort by genre or name or title or ... anything... would be nice.

There's already a thousand entries and about a hundred pages, who will ever get to the last submissions? I can't even find my own entry in there.

It would seem to favor the early submitters or whoever gets on the first few pages.

Actually, I've found that interesting. I've gone through ALL the pages and not found my entry, and then other times I do find it. Moreover, some entries show up multiple times throughout all of the pages. I think they're randomizing it somehow, I don't think that it's even hard coded. Otherwise I should be able to go to page 89 and find mine. But it's not really working that way.

I suppose that works for avoiding the problem of a benefit going to the early submissions.

I have to say I like Mr Bill's track (the current frontrunner) but am not impressed by his promise of free downloads as a perk for voting. But I guess that's just the way it goes. It is however why I didn't give him a vote. Is that petty? Maybe. That said, as much as I'd love to go to Berlin and all, I don't really expect to win.

I think the voting is a bit whack because it depends on your friend count in social media -- not that I can think of a better way to do it. Doesn't seem to be a likely opportunity for an "unknown" with a lot of talent and potential to get a fair shake. Not complaining, just stating the obvious.

I don't mean to sound petty, and I know that I don't have any chance at winning, I do it just for the fun. The contest says that creativity and knock-their-socks-off entries are what they are looking for, but the final entries will be chosen from the top 25 popular choices.

To me that means 4-4 dance music, heavily compressed, is all that has any chance of making it.

Imitative, hardly creative, to my way of thinking.

But I guess it depends on how you define 'creative'.

I think this is mainly just a promotional tool for SoundCloud. With the Facebook IPO now history, anything that has 'social network' in it is falling into the pattern that started the first big tech bubble in 1999.

< [OT] I wish SoundCloud allowed their clients a way to alter their page layout more precisely. >

How many people tried to listen all of the song? I no sooner seeing the numbers of pages and its browsing method than I decided to give up. I'm not sure I don't miss any great remix. I want staff in ableton to listen all of them and pick fine remix. It is kind of irresposible that let the unlimited people post the songs and left them without sponsor's reviews.

I'm doing it.
24 hours is too short. I like to take a break between two sessions, but here it's not possible ...

Also, it's not a remix, they ask for originals.
So I don't know, but will we be able to sell our track after the contest ?

dont forget ableton. i think any contests like are all just marketing. it gets a product out there a little more.
still a fun contest though. i like the 24 hour idea for sure. i entered but i know i'll never win. the only annoying thing is all the spam comments you get from people just trying to get votes for their shitty track. i will not vote for spammers. and i wont beg for votes here thats for sure.

Spam never dissapears on the internet. So it shows spaming partly works on the internet whether we like it or not.

Thanks Psychoactive Music! Just listened to your track too -- really nice work, the new chord progression is beautiful, I really like your synth and vox work!.

Just to be clear: arachnaut, I wasn't calling you petty, I was calling myself petty :)

The Carpet Cleaner: I was wondering about that too -- do we have any rights to the track we make/made?

bartend7: I have mixed feelings about the spam thing. There are some people out there who are just Copy and Pasting their generic message to every track as it comes out, without even giving it a listen, and that's pretty weak. But I have been posting my link when I make a comment but I only comment IF I've listened to the track. But I think it's evident in the comment that I actually listened. Hopefully.

Cheers!

:)

http://contest.ableton.com/tracks/1058
