in my opinion two of the best out there and they deserve way more votes / attention. here's what i came up with, very similar style to the two i linked above: http://contest.ableton.com/tracks/726
dinchak, that's a great track you entered! Nice work! I love what you did tonally with the chime synths in the 2nd quarter of the track. Masterful!

really enjoyed moongriffen's too, had already heard and enjoyed ishem.

Keep em coming!

cpyatak wrote:Really nice, clean production, Cikadas. I dig the bass, and like that you hit on dubstep but didn't drown the track in it. I also really like the nice clean percussion -- everything has great separation in this track -- again, really clean production. great job!

Cheers
Yeah I totally didn't want to go 100% into dubstep since all other contests I've been in everyone has done pure dubstep. Thanks, that means a lot especially from when I first started producing music.

Cheers

you're right moongriffin & ishem's are really tight. yours is pretty sick too, i like the laidback glitch vibe, nice work!

here's my track if you wanna check it out...
http://contest.ableton.com/tracks/1497

99% of it was made with only the sample material, albeit chopped up, stretched, resampled, etc.
for the remaining 1%, i only added one small pad phrase, an Operator kick drum layered with the other sampled beat kicks, and a few textured percussion bits from my own field recordings from work and around the house.

curious what y'all think!

it's great to see so much creative work! the voting system is pretty whack but whatever that's how it goes. the experience far outweighs the chance of getting any prize.

cheers

really great track here ben, the beat is completely infectious and headnodding-inducing. the pads tie the whole piece together for me, really fantastic work. smooth transition into the synth parts as well. you got my vote!

Hey guys ! Would you mind telling me what you think of my track?
I used only the provided samples and tried to make something close to a song out of it.
Even if it's my very first track, I'm quite satisfied of it but I'd like to have your comments on my work !
It's here :)

To me that means 4-4 dance music, heavily compressed, is all that has any chance of making it.

Imitative, hardly creative, to my way of thinking.

But I guess it depends on how you define 'creative'.

I think this is mainly just a promotional tool for SoundCloud. With the Facebook IPO now history, anything that has 'social network' in it is falling into the pattern that started the first big tech bubble in 1999.

This is what I made for the Ableton Beat the Clock Contest. Turn it up LOUD!!!!!!and if you like, vote for me. I will provide my session to anyone who wants to check it out! P>S> you can download mine in WAV quality off of soundcloud if you like. %100 free. so humor me, download it, and vote! Love you guys

In some instances yes, and some no. But there are no rules. It seems as if spammers will be the chosen ones. Its hard to say if this is a good or bad thing. I could see a positive in that the spammers are really trying to get heard, which says, I am putting forth effort, and then on the other side, the spam is just too much for some of us to compete with. I am forced to spam because I am behind in votes. I thought I really had a chance here.... Would suck to get beat by one of those guys with a shitty song in the top 5..... only because of spam working in there favor..... :(
The positive side to this experience is that we all get the chance to rip each other apart, pat each other on the back, and then learn how important advertising ourselves actually is if we want to be successful in music.

once again..... I will spam you. for realz
I am in 55th place and need some top 25 action! so check me out and vote for me! Pleeeeeeeeeease!? ha ha Best of luck everyone ;)

I really like this track. It's original, it's thought provoking. At first I was tripping over myself with the beats and polyrhythms you had going on, but it resoved itself in the meat of the song and playing again realized that the intro just added tension to be resolved later in the track. Your work with pads, vocals, and especially the bass is really good! Nice work, especially if it is your first track!

Great use of synth and sample editing. You've done some things to the sounds here that I can't figure out, but I really like the track. The ending is particularly good with the burbling synth.

I also really like the way you used the vocal samples. Overall the groove was addictive, and the drum production was really nice too. Sorry, couldn't turn this one up too loud, I'm listening at work :)

Well done! Good luck!
