The summing bus is horrible.
Re: Goodbye Bitwig, OhmStudio is there! (and beta is open!)
Are there that many people here that are interested in Ohm Studio? I mean, collaborative music is music "designed by committee". As an artist, do you really want to relinquish control of your work to others, even if you've given them permission in the first place? And copyright-wise, who owns the finished product? Call me a control freak, but I want MY NAME on my musical endeavors, to reap either the credit or the criticism. (Do you really see Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, or PVD getting involved in this kind of producing?) Other than a musical game or exercise, Ohm Studio doesn't seem to have much value to me. And as a DAW (in its infancy, mind you), it's not going to be as full-featured as the ones that have been around for a few years (Logic, Cubase, Ableton).
Anyway, those are my views. Please, tell me yours.
Peace,
Mike

I assume that's his assumption based on nothing. Otherwise he could show us the datasheet.masterblasterofdisaster wrote: How is it horrible?
I got similar impression from their presentation. First of all, not so many people would want to use chat/community tool while focusing on a project. That'll be distraction. The virtual rack preview seems unique feature.droidmike wrote:As an artist, do you really want to relinquish control of your work to others, even if you've given them permission in the first place?

I suspect this sentiment manifests most strongly in the electronic music forums.droidmike wrote:Are there that many people here that are interested in Ohm Studio? I mean, collaborative music is music "designed by committee".
I'm interested in Ohm Studio, for sure. It gives me an easy way of collaborating with musician friends who have moved all over the world.

It'll be the good support tool for the company and teachers. 'Teach me online!'

been using it a bit..there are some really nice ideas to their functionality...and the devs are listening well to the testers...the ppl behind it come across as genuine helpful and pretty cool...accesible, unlike (ahem)
no need that using it exclude the making of one's own music as well, although there are only so many hours in the day
having a chat window right there in the project IS a bit like eating a sandwich on the toilet though

While appreciate that plenty of people work solo, in this context, I'm not sure I get the distraction issue. If you're collaborating, don't you want to communicate verbally as well?simmerdown wrote: having a chat window right there in the project IS a bit like eating a sandwich on the toilet though

yep, there are two modes to toggle, a chat within the project, or the main chatroom going on...whats not there is the option of closing that space and using it for more important functions.....

I see. Now that you mention it, the constant popups from the main chat are distracting as well. I assume those can be disabled, but I haven't tried yet (away from my setup now...)simmerdown wrote:yep, there are two modes to toggle, a chat within the project, or the main chatroom going on...whats not there is the option of closing that space and using it for more important functions.....
