i got a track out of this in 24hrs, which i'm getting to play out at my gigs. it was a really cool process and a challenge
which also got me composing a lil differently to get a track together a whole lot faster.
i would normally listen to a whole bunch of samples, find that sweet break, then build from there etc.
for this comp, i literally grabbed sounds from the sample packs, threw them in drum racks, simpler etc and started jamming my own melodies, just from the sounds alone.
really got me back to my sampling days.
it's definitely going to influence some of my future track writing.
wrt the votes etc. i really campaigned through my relative social networks etc. and only amassed 53 votes ;)
which kept me far from being in any contention.
i did get the most comments out of all my tracks on my soundcloud page (but...erm...tons of spam...haha)
good luck to those that manage to get in fairly, i hope your work and effort get realized.

if any of you want to check out my track, here you go...no votes necessary :)

I think it is great that this competition has positively affected people in the way they look at producing. I know it has helped develop peoples production techniques and lead to some good relationships, but at the same time it is very deflating that people that have cheated have managed to get through and may possibly be rewarded for something they don't deserve.

And some of those final entries are garbage, they won't even get a listen by the judges so it's completely pointless them even being in the top 25.

Do the right thing Ableton, give the people that deserve it a chance. It's obvious that this has been rigged by certain entries, and i'm sure the judges would prefer to listen to good music that's been put together with interesting production techniques....and more importantly has got to where they are without cheating!!!!

Has anyone had a response from Ableton about the cheating?

Yeah it was a fun competition, I had like an adrenaline rush while making the song only having 24hs, The idea was great.
However when the voting period started I started to worry, just in the first couple of days you could spot right away songs that had a ridiculous amount of votes with crappy music!

In the last 2 days mr bill track was passed by 3 guys that gathered nearly 800 votes in just 2 days!
IMHO dream of gamelan(2nd place), is a horrific track, the elemnets are completely out of tune, there is no rhythm or groove at all through the whole song, I honestly had an extremely bad time when trying to hear it, literaly, I could even finish listening to it because of the musical fails in that song. Nothing personal, but I dont think a track like that can nearly achieve the 800 votes it got in just two days. I know it was in just 2 days because I was positioned 7th-10th place during the last 2 weeks and had an account of which people where behind. And in just 48 hours this guy seemed to have gathered 800 votes, surpassing even mr bill track which was 1st for pretty much all the competition.

Anyways, I finished the competition pretty angry because the last night of the competiton i was placed 11th-14th and when I woke up, with just a couple of hours of competition left y was placed 26th.

Hope ableton does something about this.

something about what?
Have none of you ever turned on a radio or television your entire life?

if anything this should be a great lesson for people who consider themselves artists vs people who consider themselves savvy.
honesty vs dishonesty and it's relationship to wimpy vs survival of the fittest.

Not sure if I think you getting your mum/grandma etc to vote for you is any better than people setting up fake email accounts...
Don't mean to sound harsh mozzatron, but getting family & friends to vote for your track based on who you are , & not the quality of your track is as good as cheating.

Good luck Mr Bill. :D

What a pile of crap. Believe me there are plenty of entrants that busted there ass gathering votes and promoting their tracks. Someone that has blatantly paid for votes (which is possible) is weak....where's the effort in that? They obviously haven't got the skills to win something by putting a bit of work in, nor do they have any self belief in what they do, which is another sign of weakness.

Survival of the fittest my arse.

I completely agree, which is why i asked everyone i know "TO LISTEN TO MY TRACK AND VOTE IF THEY LIKE IT". And believe me, everyone in this competition would have got their friends and family to vote for them. I think that's a given....don't you?

And i failed to mention the amount of effort i put in to listening to as many other entrants submissions as i could. If you were to go through all my comments that i left, you would see that each comment is relevant to the song....which shows that i actually listened to it.

I can honestly say there was only a handful of people that i saw doing this, the majority were spamming everyone to get votes by simply cutting and pasting the same comment and hitting as many people up with it as they possibly could.

These kind of competitions will always have their boundaries pushed, but in my eyes, some that pays for votes is a definite cheat and should be removed from the contest no questions asked. It is blatantly obvious that a number of people have achieved a top 25 position from doing this.

I wouldn't get too worked up over it. It is just a competition.

Exactly right. But it's annoying when you are in the top 10 right up until the last day then get knocked out by someone cheating

c'mon Ableton pls..this mr. justice really wants to win so bad, he wrote like this all the time:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=180603&p=1410493#p1410493
and talking bad about others..with anger. Pls don't let him cry all day, let him just win
he got a strange sc account with just 1 follower https://soundcloud.com/polybius with an all deleted songs, not sure why..
but he's so good, that allows him for being such a hater, and called other's people works such as crappy and rubbish..he's a real gentleman, so honest..a true legit player. If it's because of me that you loose. It's a pleasure :D
