Clip automation on a blank audio clip

Post by herathe » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:28 pm

hey guys,

heres what i want to do:

i use ableton when playing live, i have a backing track playing on one track, and i have another track which i run vocals through so that i can add my own delays and reverbs before the vox are sent to the mixing desk.

the backing tracks are not warped, so the tempo of ableton doesnt really have much of a say in the matter, we have an extra track with a click for the drummer.

now, i want to be able to automate certain peramters on the delay and reverbs during the course of the song, i want these automations to be 'automatic' (pun not intended). in other words, i want to press play on the backing track, then i want the delays on the vocal track to change at pre determined parts in the song. the problem is, there is no audio clip as the audio for the vocals is being sung live, so i cant just write an envelope on the audio clip.

thanks for reading!

any suggestions?

cheers

You could try using dummy clips (Tom Cosm's got a good tutorial on it)
or ClyphX.

Both methods allow you to control pretty much all parameters automatically without the need for automation on the actual clips or tracks you want to control.
