Sony MDR 7506. They can get a little uncomfortable after wearing them for a while and you got to watch the mids on them. I have not tried any others yet. Next pair I get will be noise cancelling. Outside noise leaks into the Sonys.

Sennheiser HD 25 have better isolation I think, the Sony`s are good though. For more true sound ( studio not live) HD 650 or 600 ( almost same and much cheaper).

I've used Sony 7506's for years, I've owned AKG 240's too (but they broke), and I had a borrowed set of AKG 171's for a while. I like all 3 of them. It's wild to mix something and switch headphones mid-way through. A mix sounds 100% completely different on 7506's as compared to 240's and 171's. Of those 3 I like the 171's the best.

The next set of phones I'm going to buy are Sennheiser HD25's. They sound amazing, and I love the way you can move one earpiece off of your ear without taking them off. Plus they split the difference between being good studio monitors, killer live DJ cans, and good production field recording headphones, the 3 things I intend to do.

Just a note... I wouldn't reccomend using noise cancelling headphones. I'd get a set that does effective noise attenuation i.e. closed back, snug fit, solid materials. Beyerdynamic DT-770M's are amazing for this. Stay away from the Sennheiser HD280's though.

HD25's are the best DJing headphones ever made as far as i'm concerned, but for long periods of time listening to production work they are hard on the ears.

7506's the ns10s of the headphone world for sure, good for phone mixing even if phone mixing aint good, but I'm not necessarily talking about accuracy, more like just good sound even if it's not accurate. I just want to put some phones on that make my head feel like its a bumpin stereo. Purely for being creative and getting rich sounds out of my softsynths and samplers/ samples, then of course i'll switch to something accrurate for mixing later.
I'm trying to find some phones to get maximum joy out of while doin my little coffee house thingl

btw has anybody used the epytomic...dunno if i spelled that right, prolly not

another vote for the sony mdr 7506.

i have been through 2 pairs already and they never disappoint me.
the high end is a little off...as well as a bit of issues in the upper-low
end, but once you understand this they are solid as hell.

im in the same boat myself, I heard that the ultrasound or ultraone headphones sound incredible, gonna check them out at guitar center this week, also heard the beyer dynamic 770's are really great sounding.

Hey, I use a pair of Sony MDR V6s. I think they might be the same as the MDR 7405. Not sure about that though. They're a little bit hard to find, but you can get them at B&H Photo-Video (and Audio) for $70.00. For me they're great. They're quite accurate which is good, especially since I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. Unlike most Sony headphones (including the similarily name MDR V600 which you shouldn't get), they don't over emphasize the bass, which I like.

They do get a bit uncomfortable after wearing them for awhile (like, maybe an hour and a half). That's when I switch over to my Grado SR60s (also available for $70.00). These are open headphones and sure, they look funny! But they sound great (esp. for the price)...They're not as accurate, but they have a very nice open sound compared to the Sony's analytical sound.

I love beyerdynamic DT 150. Quite a sovietic look, but I find them very comfortable and not tireing. The sound it quite good too.

Does anybody have some remarks about the AKG K271?
I have it and i like it.

But i havent been thru enough pairs of headphones to really say it's better or worse then the models you guys mention.
