when did you last "play a solo"

Post by Angstrom » Thu Jul 19, 2012 1:20 am

When was the last time you let rip like minimal techno never happened.

I'm not talking about a polite 4 bar turnaround, I mean played a solo.
A when will this end type of solo.
An out of control "oh I just thought of another thing I can include" type of 1970's batshit egotism insane solo , where all your other bandmates hate you with a burning passion, but tolerate it purely because in a minute they are going to do one twice as bad and self indulgent.

one of those

I still use this track a lot in my current live set, definitely the most Kenny G I've ever gotten on a synth while recording:

Solo is at about 3:00, and is Zebra being playing via a Virus TI-K.

Wankery, gotta love it.

monday night, half of the band on vacation. me, another guitar player and a drummer in a basement jamming. some drone looping with a boss delay, improvising melodies over a two chord riff, detuning strings into an open tuning while playing. the other two guys couldn't believe it. that was great.

I voted for option 1 on the assumption that "Play a solo" is meant as an onanistic euphemism.
"The banjo is the perfect instrument for the antisocial."

-just stopped my solo to post here... 8)

no joke, what I miss about most current music is good solo parts and musicians getting nuts on playing their instruments. I guess this has a lot to do with the incorporation of electronic elements in a bad manner aka letting a laptop play a backing track which is totally rigid and does not allow musicians break away from the pre-made arrangement spontaneously.

I´m having piano lessons since half a year and my goal is learning how to play insane synth solos.

in this track I programmed a solo by mouse just because I couldn´t play it:

this one does not actually incorporate a real solo, but some serious messing around with arpeggiator, delay and distortion in the middle which it is recorded live:

http://soundcloud.com/r-u-nuts/beteigeu ... 20kbps-mp3

...and this one includes my first synth solo played live  :

btw.: the first two tracks are mastered by tarekith :D
