Best commercial techno track to use as a mixdown reference ?
Hi,
I'm willing to buy a techno / minimal techno / hardtechno track in wav format tu use as a reference track during the mixdown process of our tracks to be released on vinyle and mp3 formats this fall
I'm not a DJ and don't have much DJs around me this time, so I'm asking for your advice
thanks a lot
cheers

anyone?
I guess I should be right with any pan-pot recent release, I like their sound for this style of music...
cheers

Well, it is kinda impossible to answer as everyone will give you a different answer. You should know what you want to sound like and compare your mix to that. I would also reference a few different sources rather than just one. Each one will give you a different perspective as to what can be improved.

Yeah, indeed
Question is very vague and of course depends on plenty of parameters...
I'm not searching to sound like X or Y, but to have the best sound I can achieve in the techno/minimal/hardtechno domain, and I need some reference tracks because I can't trust my headphones and monitors,
cheers

Use a few tracks that you like and consider to be well-produced.

Also. Buy some tracks that you like the sound of coming out of a PA in a club.

Re: Best commercial techno track to use as a mixdown reference ?
thanks again,
but I'm asking for advices on to what artist or track, indeed because I don't have a clue on which to choose...
I can get out and floordance but I won't know what is this huge track I'm hearing... (and sometimes I love a track for its ideas, sound, not specifically for its mixdown clarity... and then, I could say "hey", this artist, ok, I'll have his tracks, but maybe the pleasure I had listening to it came only from the talent / composition and the track may be not that good to be used as a mixdown reference....)
I don't have tracks in my computer that I would say they are greatly produced... all I know is that some of them sound better in my ears... but can I trust the ears when music comes out of some headphones or common monitors...?
and I'm OK to buy one or two, just have to know which ones...
so, what track(s) should I buy??
cheers

You're just going to have to be one of those obsessive types that talks to DJs and tries to describe techno using words and bad sound effects. It feels weird to begin with, but after a while you'll wonder what held you back for all those years.

check the releases coming from the label, 1605.
for more commercially techy sounds listen to Marco Lys releases.
you should have range of style there with very good masters

Re: Best commercial techno track to use as a mixdown reference ?
hi, back from holidays,
thanks for your advices
and thanks to morbid who is the only one who dares to give me 1 precise track and not only labels or artists
(I know a few great labels and artists, but I don't want to spend time browsing their releases to find the best mixdown / production value... pardon my lazyness)
(getting out of the topic )
anyway, thanks to all of you

I guess I meant techno that is sold on the international music industry. what do you mean with your question, is that irony meaning all techno is commercial, or that techno is not a commercial genre?Coomercial techno ? whats that ?

anyway, thanks to all of you
Re: Best commercial techno track to use as a mixdown reference ?
for me the answer would be Tosca's Suzki album. that's how I'd love to sound and the dynamics fire up my muse. I'd also use Underworld's Second Toughest album or for hip hop I'd use DJ Cam's The Beat Assassinated. for Rock, stuff produced by Rick Okasik or Flood.
I once read an article where a Producer used the Eagles Hotel California as a reference, not the original but the re-release when they did the Hell Freezes Over Tour.
good artists copy
great artists steal.
put on what you like and make it sound exactly the same.
no links, I'm lazy.
