Issue with mouse/fader control
Issue with mouse/fader control
Having an issue where sometimes grabbing the fader with the mouse pointer displays improperly. The fader will move but the mouse will "freeze" and will not move as it should. I've reproduced it multiple times after having Live open for a while, but haven't been able to narrow it down to any specific task.
I'm using an m-audio axiom as well as the iPad with TouchOSC to control Live if that has any impact.
Here is a video showing what the issue looks like: http://www.screencast.com/t/nE1JXnvLGV

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
Hey Joe!,
Can you still reproduce this behaviour when disabling the axiom, and the touch OSC / ipad?. I would expect both devices to send continuous updates to the fader UI, and maybe at a rate that doesnt make your cursor dissapear. When it happens after a while I am also proned to think its a midi control buffer that under runs, due to either Axiom/hypercontrol or Touch OSC.
Please reproduce this with no hypercontrol or any other input device active in your preferences.
Best,
Mads

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
Additionally, please try adding this line to the Options.txt
"-AbsoluteMouseMode"
That would also change mouse behaviour, and might prevetn the issue you are seeing.

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
I'll see what I can find out, have both control surfaces disabled and will leave it running for a while.

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
hasn't happened yet since disabling hypercontrol and touchosc, that's why I mentioned those because I wondered if that was the issue. I'll watch it and see. Maybe having both enabled at once was the issue.

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
Hi Joe,
Thanks for re-checking this, the assumption is correct on hypercontrol/OSC, now we have to find out which one is causing the behaviour.
When you see the error again after enabling the controls - Please give the entry in the Options.txt a try, since it will also modify mouse behaviour when having external controls such as touch OSC and hypercontrol.
Best,
Mads

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
As far as I can see, that option is broken in 8.4b4, yet still works in 8.3.3 (haven't investigated yet where the issue started appearing). I have the -AbsoluteMouseMode option enabled in order to use a Wacom Intuos3 tablet. In 8.4b4 the regular multitouch pad on my Macbook Pro is broken: only the tablet's pointer left-click works correctly; regular left-clicking using tapping on the multitouch does not, system wide, also after quitting Ableton Live - until logoff/logon or OS restart. Also, with the Dock set to auto-hide, it stops appearing when hovering over the region where it's supposed to appear.[mal] wrote:Additionally, please try adding this line to the Options.txt

I'll go install 8.4b5 now, and report back if I see any changes.
PS: I think it is retarded that this is an option hidden away in a .txt file. This should just work out of the box, and if necessary at all, be configurable from the regular preferences inside the app.

Hi Banned,
Please send in the log.txt to support@ableton.com
It should be in the same folder as Options.txt and preferences.cfg.

@ Joe
Did adding the line to options text solve your problem?
What changed on your system since you could reproduce the problem?.

Re: Issue with mouse/fader control
I didn't add the text, I just disabled and re-enabled hyper control and touch osc

Thanks Banned.
I hope we get closer to the problem looking at the data.
@ Joe, if the problem re-occurs please try the addition to the options text, to see if that will resolve it as well.
Best,
Mads
