Sustain Pedal and OVR mode

hi there
when i record midi, f.e. piano with a softsynth, i know i can overwrite (OVR) or not.
but it looks like it doesn't overwrite sustain pedal info.
is this correct?
cause when i record MIDI over a previous take, the previous sustain pedal action is still interfering with the new take.
any help is appreciated!

automation isn't recorded in Session View.

or you have Remote turned off in the midi preferences. that would block any CC data coming in.

I believe OVR only overlays MIDI messages, it doesn't overwrite them.

I think it might overwrite CC data but only if you send a new message during the overdub. I haven't tried your specific scenario so you might want to double check that any kind of CC overdubbing is possible, but assuming it is, the absence of a CC message will surely not overwrite a previous message.

Sustain pedal is a CC message though, which I'm pretty sure are recordable into Session View clips. I'm not sure if you can do it with OVR or not but I believe I have done it upon first recording.

If possible, try changing the range of your pedal on your keyboard to 1-127. When it is off, it is at Zero, and if you should happen to interrupt a clip by overdubbing with a setting of Zero, Live might ignore it. Of course, not all controllers will let you change the range :/

sustain messages are always a bit messy when looping and overdubbing.

and MIDI overdub mode doesn't "overwrite", it merges existing MIDI messages with new ones.

when I do stuff like this, I insert a M4L device that converts sustain pedal (CC64) messages into note duration, i.e., longer notes rather than a CC message. Makes it much easier to edit the stuff afterward. I posted a device that does this to the Max for Live site: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/301/sustainer.
