Hello, this is my first post here in many years. There is something that has been bothering me with respect to using Live since version 5 I'd like to share.
I like to use VST's that host multiple MIDI channels; for example Play, Access Virus Ti2, etc. Either one can host/drive up to 16 individual MIDI channels.
A typical way I set them up (in any other DAW) is to use multiple MIDI tracks each configured to output to the "master" host VST and each set to the respective MIDI channel, all under the same host VST output. This saves time and resources, since I don't have to instantiate multiple VST's for each individual part - they are all driven from the same host instrument. As a further step, I like to then combine these sets into individual folders. It makes organizing many tracks much cleaner, but that's not what I'm asking at this point.
Here is my problem. As yet, when I set it up this way the only way to control independant volume, pan adjustments is within the host VST itself, as these controls do not appear under each respective MIDI track in Live when configured as described above. All that does appear are a vertical row of "leds" which only serve to tell me MIDI events are working. And in track view, the only thing I can control per channel is "speaker on"
So, what I'd love to have is access (in track or session view) to the volume, pan, etc controls (dials if you will) for each "sub track" of a given MIDI part, as if it were any other MIDI/Audio track. If I'm going about this the wrong way, please let me know.
My only other "wish" would be a macro for user defined transposing of MIDI notes. I know I can use a MIDI effect for this, but it's much faster and more intuitive to just use a dedicated command/interface. Assigned to Cntl-M or something. I end up just selecting and dragging notes... which can be messy.
Other than that, Live is without a doubt one of my favorite software tools ever. Thank you!
