BTW: Alchemy's X/Y pad really makes me wish Live's Instant Mapping were more elaborate. I've never gotten any real use out of my NanoPad's X/Y pad because it can't be Instant Mapped to Live's X/Y pad. X/Y should be (an expandable/optional) part of Live's racks, as well as a LOT more rotaries.

the nano pad seems like a great controller for Alchemy X/Y and remix pads, are you using it to control those? I'm thinking to get one, for some drumming as well, mainly with the drum rack, impulse, attack and stylus. How do you like it? I'm torn between that and the padKontrol.

the x/y pad on the nanopad is pretty nice. my first nanopad i bought used and it lasted a good while. i got one of the last of the original ones on closeout, and after 6 months of just sitting in a softbag with a microkey and an ewi, one row of pads don't work. annoying. so even though the feel of the pads is pretty good, i can't recommend it for that.

if you've got an ipad or iphone... then alchemy mobile is the way to go. you get 2 xy controllers instead of one.

Crystalmsc: the nanoPad is good for its size and price, but it doesn't hold a candle to the padKontrol, which is a top notch controller. Both the X/Y pad and the drum pads are amazing on the PK, which is the most responsive controller I've tried in its category.

Where are you located? I might consider selling my padKontrol, as I sadly never really found much use for it - I'm just more of a studio rat than a performer PM me if you're interested, and we might be able to sort something out. It's in mint condition and all, hardly used.

We were convinced we had that one solved, as it was working in earlier betas, but somehow things went awry in the last RC and it managed to get past all of the beta testers because it is so host/system dependent. The good news is that we can reproduce the problems now, so we expect be able to resolve them quickly.

Awesome to hear it's being worked on - thanks for the actual response. More companies need that kind of attentiveness.

The browser is a great improvement. One thing I was wondering, does adding user tags to a preset include it in the list when filtering by tag?

I can't offer any details about v2 just yet. It's still relatively early in development, since we've been focusing on 1.5 for a very long time. That said, the discussions about v2 around the Camel camp have been very exciting. I can't wait to get my hands on some of the features the guys are planning.

I actually use two padKontrols as my master controller, and have been doing so for years. The only thing I wish they had was aftertouch on the pads. The XY on there is great fun with Alchemy, too. However, as theophilus noted - if you've got an iPhone or iPad then Alchemy Mobile is definitely the way to go, since it was designed with the intention of it being used as a remote control for Alchemy.

Alchemy Mobile switches to whichever instance is in focus in your host at the time.

The browser is a great improvement. One thing I was wondering, does adding user tags to a preset include it in the list when filtering by tag?

Adding user tags doesn't add them to the browser options above, but they are seen when you do a text search. For an example of how this can be used, check out the browser tutorial video at around 4:42.

I just went ahead and downloaded all the soundbanks, and now things seem smoother. The scroll wheel works only intermittently.

All in all, an awesome update.

Unfortunately OS support for scroll wheels is not so well defined. On my test system it works 90% of the time, but that depends on which OS + host partition I restore ... so there must be some Windows components that are updated.

Anyway, sorry for the problems. We will fix it if we can.

What we have done is add polyphonic aftertouch and also polyphonic note bends when using the Alchemy Mobile keyboard with Alchemy or Player on the desktop. The poly-bends require a network MIDI connection which you can easily set up on Mac using Audio MIDI Setup or by installing and configuring rtpMIDI on Windows. Setting this up has the added advantage of allowing the MIDI notes to be recorded in the host.

The poly pitch bends is pretty obvious: each note has a +/- 1 octave range and there are 128 automation parameters to control this if you want to draw it in yourself. The range is +/- 1 octave because of the limited resolution available, but this still allows for very expressive playing.

Poly aftertouch is sent from the keyboard up/down motion, and basically controls the Poly AT mod source as assigned to any parameter in Alchemy. This will be most useful for users of the full version because you can assign mod sources however you like (which is not possible in Alchemy Player). What we hope is that sound designers will make use of this functionality when creating new presets.

Poly AT isn't available with many hardware keyboards because it's very expensive to implement, so this is quite a unique feature for Alchemy Mobile + Alchemy.
