Use different names for 32/64 bit versions
Use different names for 32/64 bit versions
Please consider using different names for the 32 and 64 bit versions of Live, respectively (e.g. "Ableton Live 8 Beta" and Ableton Live 8 Beta x64"), so users can more easily install both versions on the same system.
Re: Use different names for 32/64 bit versions
I think they will in the final stable release, when you install the two version at the same time
Re: Use different names for 32/64 bit versions
Still, it would make it slightly less annoying for us beta testers willing to test both versions. And it all adds up, so it would be *much* easier. Let's do the ballpark maths: Ableton would probably only have to rename some build target *once*. I already had to rename one of the apps a bunch of times, and I'm probably not the only one. So: the number of users able to test both versions multiplied by the number of beta versions (with the same names for both architectures) > 1. By a very, very long shot.

not sure with OS X (i think it relies on an image), but with Windows you can just right click on the launcher shortcut and rename it to any thing you'd like.

Hi,
I have already communicated this onwards but remind the devs involved.
Especially the windows start menu and the installation path would benefit from a unique name to prevent overwriting installations.
Will keep the thread open for opinions.
Best,
Mads

On OS X you can also rename the app 'shortcut' on the Dock (OS X app launcher). However, that still requires the underlying app bundles to have distinguishable paths for the different architecture versions (which is basically what I am asking for, without the user having to rename one version when installing both versions during a beta cycle).H20nly wrote:not sure with OS X (i think it relies on an image), but with Windows you can just right click on the launcher shortcut and rename it to any thing you'd like.
Thanks for considering.[mal] wrote:Hi,

Re: Use different names for 32/64 bit versions
Here's what I have been doing.
1) Download both the 32b and 64b versions. Mount the first dmg and PRIOR to dragging it into the apps folder do a COMMAND + I (for get info) then rename the app by appending either 32b or 64b to the end of it. THEN you drag it into the apps folder.
Do the same thing for the other one as well and you don't have to worry about aliases or the such.
