Hopes are high!
This is way to cheap though for what you get with Live 9. I think the problem is offering a free upgrade to live suite 9 if you upgrade to live8 suite now. They should have just deducted the current cost from what you would have paid. I defintely don't think that people with Live 8 suite should pay more than people with live 8 standard to upgrade to live 9 suite. But also don't epect it to be only 100 dollars. We do get mac 4 live and a LOT of new content...

I just they would clarify this more. What are these prices we are seeing on hte website currently if not our custom upgrade fee?

I totally agree... I may be willing to pay slightly a bit more...
but not 200$ more (ffs)...
way to make me feel like a chump...
adopt the m4l thing early on... learn it... wrestle with it's constraints..
I feel like I've been checkmated...

only thing I can do to make it worthwhile for me is:
* get the Extra Suite license offered for 524$ (which comes with a Live9 Suite upgrade)
*Hold on to my old Live 4/5/6/7/8+m4l licenses,
and sell them later...to compensate for the 524$ spent...as I really don't need extra licenses.

^^^^
and since everybody in my position will probably want to do that...
the market will be flooded and LiveSuite8+M4L licenses will go on the cheap.

David/Ableton... think about it...doesn't make any sense at all...

Just had to sign up to the forum and give a big THANK YOU!

I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now, currently on Live 7 (no suite which sucks), and your upgrade paths/promotions to Live 8/9 Suite are absolutely fantastic!

It seems clear, at least to me, that Ableton is really trying to "bring in the fold" and get as many folks upgraded to Live 9 as they can. This way they can focus on pushing great features via M4L (it's free in Live 9 Suite!!) and getting us hooked on the new Push device (so awesome!) --- this is GOOD THING =D

Sorry to gush, I'm such a fucking Ableton Fanboy right now it ain't even funny!

CONGRATS!!!

That's exactly what the problem is with the announced pricing. As someone who has bought licenses for the most recent Suite AND Max 4 Live, my "best upgrade offer" is currently listed at almost $260, for Live 9 Suite alone. On the customer relations front, it would make no sense to charge people more because they have more recent and extensive licenses. It should obviously go the other way around.

Fortunately, Ableton recognizes this too, and gave the announcement in the original post of this thread. Thanks!

Ableton_David wrote:Existing Suite 8 owners will be offered an exclusive introductory discount on upgrades to Live 9 Suite, to be made available upon release. This introductory discount is not yet shown on the website, as Live 9 Suite is not yet available. We apologize for any confusion or frustration from our oversight in not making this discount clear on ableton.com, and ask for your patience as we iron out the kinks in our new site.
Thanks for chiming in with a response so quickly. This still doesn't answer the question or problem we have as Live 8 Suite + M4L owners. As others on this thread have mentioned, the currently publicized deal of Live 8 > Live 8 Suite with free upgrade to Live 9 Suite for $104 is far better than the presently advertised price of around $234 for the Live 8 Suite > Live 9 Suite upgrade.

While it's nice that you're planning an introductory discount, it should be $104 or less. And if you're planning to make that available upon release, we have some calculating to do. Should we trust you (huh?) to offer us an upgrade at $104 or less in several months' time, or take the present bait?

BTW, I think the upgrade to Live 9 Suite is worth a good chunk of change. But the presently announced pricing scheme has to be squared up for us.

The above deal (around USD $80 to upgrade to boxed Suite 8 with coupon for Live 9 Suite) doesn't seem to work for M4L owners—again the M4L owners are screwed. $44 for a box, no coupon. :D

very simple... upgrades bought after a certain date get the upgrade...
it's always been like this... only now the upgrade price has been halved...

for people with nowhere to upgrade to..
we get to upgrade to Live9 Suite for around 250$
(having already paid for the 9 Live instruments 40 Live-fx and have bought M4L separately)
that's simply not fair...

Hopefully Abes will come to their senses & offer a lovely $80-100 discount coupon to all those that have spent money on the 8 suite & M4L ( & live 7,6,5 etc ).

That would just be great & stop any anger on this forum in a heartbeat. :D
