On second thought, I'm excited for Live 9.

Post by Tarekith » Fri Oct 26, 2012 1:35 am

You know, when I first read the press release for Live 9 this morning, my first thought was "umm, ok, but that's it?". Seemed like some nice improvements for sure, but for how long it's been since Live 8 came out, I was expecting just a little more I think.

But throughout the day I've been looking into that Push controller, and I realized that this is about Ableton not just doing a software update, but redoing the core of the whole app so that this integration with Push can happen as seamlessly as possible. I mean, sure it's a lot like Maschine, but even better really. One of the things I hated about Maschine, was that when I had to turn to the laptop to do something I couldn't on the controller, the Maschine software was just clunky and slow IMO.

But with Push, if you need to do something that can't be done easily on Push, you still have a really well doen DAW to deal with directly. As long as the hardware is nice and solid (and it sounds like it is), I think this is going to be a really cool step forward for Live. Plus, Push will make a nice DJ controller laid out like that, much more so than the APC40 did for me.

Should be cool, I'm excited to try this now.

(and thanks for new browser too, ungh to the old one!)

Yep, top-to-bottom products, a la Apple. Will push work with pre-9 versions and how will it play with other software I wonder?

I'm not blown away by the new features in Live, but Push shows huge potential.

I love the fact that it is velocity and aftertouch sensitive, and for some people, including myself, it could replace MIDI keyboard, launchpad/APC, MPD/PadKontrol... and mouse... to some degree :)

I reckon the hip-hop boys are gonna dive on it.

I really hope I can eventually map up some VSTs and save the preset.
The thoughts of controlling Sylenth with a few pages of dedicated knobs, each displaying the relevant parameter ... that is interesting!

Session View Automation is gonna kick ass too.

The really need to dump the magnolia though.

i think the new slogan for push should be "you asked for features and we gave you 1/4 of them, you did not ask for new hardware but you are getting it anyways...... ableton..., we are going to "push" you over board"

after they say "push" in the new comercial some one should also say "ahhhh"" in the background like they are drinking a refreshing can of coke.

so it would be " ableton, we are going to "push" (ahhhhh) you over board"

btw what happend to me was totally the opposite of what happend to you. at 7:40 something a.m., i click on my ableton bookmark and bam there it is in all its glory.
'ableton live 9! yay! its here!' and then i read the features and watch the videos.. 'woohoo a new toy called push' i experienced what henke explained a long time ago
at first people are filled with a sense of euphoria.
and then i experienced what he said comes next.
after a while this sense of out rage started to slowly gnaw at me ' no multiple monitor support grrr' 'no real tempo mapping grrrrr' 'the upgrade price triple grrrrr' and then the real bomb shell happens ' where the hell is the forum link!' ' not only is the link gone the website is confusing' 'so they didnt delete the forum but they put a full on assult on your eyes for finding it'
that was the tip of the iceberg.
nooooo morrrreeeeee!!!!!!
everything went blank from there, i was now in an alternate universe.

so i checked myself into the betty ford clinic.

Now Bitwig looks way more interesting to me.
The features announced for Bitwig,
makes it so much innovative then Live 9...

Push is really cool, but I don't need it.
I am more interested in clips and some other more useful features.

I have Glue as VST already, also a very nice Gate and a better EQ then EQ8 will be.
So there is nothing promising to come either...! Hmmm...

No mention of 32bit plugin support or a bridge too.
So many unexplained things, means that they didn't do their homework.

They came up with a hardware to take over customers from other hardware developers.
Try to get new customers with that was main purpose it seems,
but not satisfying the ones that already have Live.

I think there is no good reason to get Live 9 for me and I'll wait a Bitwig...,
and see if I get there what I need.
No! I'll never use the Push-App Live 9 !!!

all bad jokes aside i wont be upgrading until i at least try bitwig first.
as long as bitwig is not full of bugs and all features work as expected then, i think they will be successful.

I'm unreasonably excited about today's releases. Ableton coming out with more controllers and a new version of Live is making good competition for Native Instruments, more competition always being a good thing.

i`m already a live user and i just can say: ok multi monitor support would be nice, but push.... wow . push does what i always wanted to do with loads of midi remotescripts and maxforlive.. and now this is completly integrated. in a very nice way. the browser, audio to midi, session automation. all things that make ableton a better instrument. for me, my alltime goal is to really use ableton like a real world instrument and create music on the fly. looks like this will make this process much more easy and fun.
